People with coeliac can experience many different syptoms, which includes the well known symptom of weight loss. It can also cause unexplained weight gain which sometimes confuses patients and doctors. People who have had coeliac diagnosed can gain weight normally if they were underwieght and can loose unwanted excess weight that was caused by the illness.
i was diagnosed with coeliac disease when i was 6 and due to it ended up with weight problems i weighed to little and was put on weight gain shakes at the age of 10 which lasted about a year
my sister who also has coeliac disease has also had trouble getting to the weight the doctors set us
i am 18 now and have my weight under control but i would say its harder to gain weight if you are on a gluten free diet because there is a lot of junk food cut out and everything seems to be free of pretty much everything haha
but like someone else said its basically about watching what you eat
Hi, i was diagnosed with coeliac disease when i was about 7, i was very thin, but had a bloated stomach. Since being on a controlled diet until about 11 i was fairly slim but well built. Now im 17 and have gained alot of weight and weigh 10 stone, which is just slightly heavier than my friends.
I have gluten intolarance and i actually gained weight before it was under control. Once it is under control, its just like any other "diet". It depends on what you eat. You can eat lots of gluten free foods that are high in calories and/or fat that can cause weight gain.
My cousin has it and she is not slim so she must have put weight on at some point. Now her diet is under control she is much healthier and has even lost some weight.
