pins and needles

I have pins and needles, and numbness in the right side of my body, right hand and right leg. In my right arm, this sensation is constant. It heightens during the night, when I sleep. At some point the increased sensation in my fingers wakes me up. In the leg, it is transient. The sensation moves up and down my leg from the thigh down to my toes. Physicians do not thing it is nerve issue. I appreciate advice. Thank you.

Thank you for all information. As parasthesia is a skin disorder, and I had itching problem in the different parts of the body, I did contact a dermatologist. It almost took 2 years to heal the blisters. Steel I am having tightness on my feet.Sensations are similar to walking on rocks.NSAIDS do not work. And as symptoms are mild, I do not take any symptomatic treatment. Neurological physical examination show all reflexes to be normal.Doctors commented that perhaps it is some trapped nerve.Initial symptoms were just slight and transient warmth at feet. These were also very mild so need not bother much about the symptoms. Thank you for the suggestion. I will consult neurologist for further investigation.

Pins and needles can be due to pinched nerves and these can be from problems along the spine.

For example, problems in the cervical bones can cause the pins and needles in your arm hand and fingers.

Lower spinal problems can cause pins and needles to run down your legs.

If you have not had a bone image done and all other tests have come back fine, it may be a good idea to find out if there are any degenerative changes in the spine.

Even when a cause is found, there may not be a cure.  But the doctor can prescribe pain relief medication and also antidepressants.  There are a few different ones available that are used for referred nerve pain.  It is a question trying them to see if they work for you.  If one doesn't work, then a different one can be tried or the dose increased.

With regard to your hand problem - if you have not had a nerve conduction test done, it would be a good idea to have that done.  Waking up with a dead hand or pins and needles in it, could be from impingement of nerves in the carpal tunnel.
