skin irritation

I have very dry skin on my inner thighs and it feels tight. When I put some moisturizers or creams on it, it burns and it gets very red with some strange tiny scars that look like cuts. It used to itch at the beginning. I live in a very windy, cold and dry place, so this may be the reason.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Dry itchy skin is also known as xerosis. Simple daily routines like bathing, applying soaps and scrubbing yourself dry can decrease the moisture in the skin. You will have to choose a moisturizer suitable for your skin and apply it 2-3 times in a day. Also AC and heating depletes the skin of moisture, so if you stay for long hours in AC or heaters you should use a humidifier too. Use warm water and a mild soap for bathing. Petrolleum jelly used at night along with glycerine can help keep the skin supple and moist.
Drink plenty of fluids and water. Keep a trough of water or use a humidifier at home in your rooms. You can apply petroleum jelly and glycerine on your face at bed time. When choosing a moisturizer, look for oil-based creams and ointments. Fresh juice of tomato, cucumber and orange can be applied. Fresh cream too can be applied on face.
If these tips do not help, chances are that the dryness is due to underlying skin conditions like dermatitis, psoriasis etc. Vitamin A deficiency and diabetes too can cause dry skin. Hence these should be ruled out. You would need to consult a skin specialist then. Take care!
