So, for the past 6-7 months I've noticed that sometimes my urine has a strong musty, garlicky smell to it that immediately fills the entire bathroom and then lingers forever. It's not a horrible smell, but it's overwhelming and so strong. It could be diet, as I do sometimes eat food with garlic in it, but I'm wondering why this came on so suddenly when it was never an issue before. A couple years ago I used to eat raw garlic because I read it had health benefits, and it never made my urine smell like this.
I've also read that this smell can be a symptom of liver disease, but the further I looked into that, I learned that it's typically a symptom of late-stage liver disease. I don't have any other symptoms of liver problems - no jaundice, no light-colored stool, no confusion, no abdominal pain etc. I also rarely drink. The only thing I can think is that I take Gabapentin, which, while not metabolized by the liver, has been reported to cause liver problems in a few cases. But my dose is so low (300 mg/day).
I'm really at a loss as to what's causing this, and it's starting to freak me out. I'm also too embarrassed to ask my roommate if she can smell that overwhelming smell, but I'm sure she can.
Normally, I'd just go to the doctor, but because of coronavirus, I'm hesitant. Does anyone have any idea what the issue could be? I want to know if this is something I really need to see someone about or if it's just a random weird body thing that'll eventually go away on its own.
