Loss of bladder control for the first time in age 28?!

Hi
I am male, 28. A few days ago, I woke up in the morning to find out that I've urinated on my bed. It was not some drops, but my whole bladder had been emptied and I had not noticed during that. I woke up probable because I just felt wet. It is very strange, I have not used any drug or medicine; also, I have not had any new stress or anxiety that may cause it. I had not done anything special that night. I have never had such a thing in my life. (expect my early childhood which I don't remember!). My question is if it is abnormal to have such a thing just one time. and what can I be suspicious to if it happens again?

Thank a lot

Hi, if this is just an isolated case than it could be due to deep sleep and possible dream about urination.

If this happens again than there could be an underlying medical condition.

I'm only mentioning this because of my own experience. I have a neuropathy of the peripheral nervous system. I have had at least 3 occasions where I had noticed that I was urinating in my sleep. On these occasions I woke up, but had urinated enough to be wet yet not completely emptying my bladder. I should also state that I was diagnosed with a neurogenic bladder. At times I have a difficult time controling the sphyncters. Since I have been using self catheterization to ensure that the bladder is empty, I have not had any more accidents. Currently I have a suprapubic catheter due to an urological issue. I have had times that the tubing has come undone, and I did not noticed untill a considerable amount of urine was spilt. I have a hard time noticing the sensation of wetness.

I hope that this will remain an isolated one time experience for you.

All the best.

Ron

Actually, it seems there is nothing wrong with my bladder control, as I can control it easily when urinating. But I think my sensation to urinate is not same as before and it doesn't put much pressure on me when the bladder is full. So, when I am awake, I know when to go to bathroom (even though it doesn't urge me), but when I am asleep and my bladder is full, there is not much sense to wake me up and it results urination during sleep. Can anybody tell me what happened to me and what I should do? Thanks.

Sometimes this will happen if in a very deep sleep. Perhaps you have been stressed about something or have not had a full nights' sleep in some time. No doubt you are feeling embarrassed about it but don't be. If it does continue however it could mean that your bladder may have dropped some (quite common) more so in women but in men as well. Speak to your physician about it and if he finds it necessary he will send you to a Urologist and he may put in a form of a cradle (netting) to hold your bladder up. A friend of mine just a little older than yourself had to have this done, minor surgery however off of work for a short time. My friend is female but she is now free of the problem she once had. If it doesn't continue with you I don't think you have anything to worry about, but if it does do see your Physician.
Take care,
