More information that the Urologist told me yesterday morning

I remember that the Urologist that I saw yesterday morning said to me, (after my examination}, "You have bladder prolapse since there are no female organs except for your left ovary which was removed due to excessive bleeding in January of 2005.  That is when he recommended surgery to be done and also asked me a couple of questions like Who my Cardiologist is, my main doctor is and what hospital do I want my surgery at.  I told him that I would be undergoing tests on March 4 and 11 and that when I get the test results I will have an EKG taken and will get the clearance from him, and also I see my main medical doctor on March 11, and will get the clearance from him since I will be seeing him for my annual Physical Examination.  I am quite positive that there is a chance that I might be staying overnight after my surgery.  Would it be advised especially since I am an older female, age 52 almost 53, and weigh approximately 205 pounds.

If your question is whether it would be advisable to stay overnight at the hospital, especially in light of the stress and anxiety that you are feeling, I would say yes. If I were in your place, assuming your health insurance will cover it, I would try to stay over.

If it becomes necessary for your surgeon to document "medical necessity" of keeping you overnight, and it seems unsure whether your insurance company will okay it, it may be helpful to describe IN DETAIL any physical pain that you may be suffering.

If I am misunderstanding your question, and you are asking whether the surgery itself is advisable, that's beyond me. Is your doctor considering a "sling" type procedure to hold your bladder in place? (It's not clear from your post what's being done.)

Good luck to you, and best wishes for a full and rapid recovery.

I am not sure what the procedure will be until I see him for the pre-op examination.  I will not be having the surgery until sometime next month.  I am going to see my OB/Gyn. tomorrow afternoon and let him know what the doctor said.  I have to undergo three tests and after I have those tests, I will get the clearance to have the surgery.

Lori,

I'm not clear on the nature of the proposed surgery. Do you know? If not, I would respectfully suggest that you put he brakes on until the doctor answers all your questions. Based on what you've shared, I'm guessing it's something along the lines of the following:

"Transvaginal slings

"Precision Tack® Transvaginal Anchor System is a device that restores urinary function by returning the urinary anatomy to its proper position in a minimally invasive procedure.

"No abdominal incision is required and a small incision is made in the vaginal wall. Two small tacks are placed in the pubic bone and a sling is inserted into the vagina and attached to the tacks with sutures. The sling supports the bladder, bladder neck, urethra, and urethral sphincter so urine can flow and be held properly."

Is this guess on the right track?

Your doctor does not sound very communicative. Sometimes you have to ask a lot of questions and insist on answers. If s/he is not receptive to this, think about looking another doc.

I am just letting you know that I am going to get a second opinion and I have an appt. with another Urologist on March 3 since I want to see what he says.  When I get home from the appt. I will post on here what he said.

Lori,

Did you learn anything from todays's tests? What did the first doctor recommend?

A second opinion is a good idea before surgery; speak to more than one expert.

Are you looking to solve a urinary incontinence problem? You haven't really made it clear in your posts what's going on with you, except that you're frustrated and looking for support. If you'd like to message me privately, you're welcome to do so.

Best wishes to you.

The first doctor that I saw recommend the bladder prolapse surgery.  When I get back home on Tuesday morning (after seeing the other Urologist), I will post on here what he said.  He works out of the same hospital as the other Urologist does.

Just letting you know that the Urologist I saw today recommended that I have the prolapsed bladder surgery.  He said that the stitches might come loose due to me being overweight, and that it is an outpatient procedure and that I should be overnight due to my condition - being overweight etc.  I return to see him in one month on the 7 of April with the clearances that I will get from my Cardiologist and my main doctor - Internal Medicine.  Is there a website where I can get more information on this surgery?
