Dorsal Vein Pain

I have some questions regarding the superficial dorsal vein. Mine seems to stick out quite far, has no protection (muscles/tissue covering it), and appears to be causing me pain during intercourse as a result. I was circumcised as an infant and am curious about what is done during that process and how it works afterwards.

1. Following the circumcision, is the superficial dorsal vein closed, attached to something else, or just left to heal by itself with no additional treatment?

2. Following the circumcision, is the superficial dorsal vein still functional (filled with blood while erect or flaccid) or does it become useless and non-functional?

Is there anything I can do about this pain?
