UTI and dental infection

I have been struggling with a dental infection for the last three months. I have had an incomplete root canal and am on my 4th go round of antibiotics. I am on my second perscription of clindamycin. NOW I have UTI symptoms. I read that TMZ ( bactrim) should not be given to treat UTIs that follow dental work. Anyone know why? I neeed something for the UTI- should I mention to my Dr that I read that Bactrim is not recommended if the UTI occurs post dental work? Could the dental infection have caused the UTI? Should clindamycin clear up the UTI?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.
