Hi,

Being the owner of a 47 y/o natural penis with it's foreskin, I can tell you that it depends on the owner of the penis.
I'm very thankful that my parents left my penis untouched and not having had my foreskin removed.

I think that I was about two and a half to 3 hears old before I could retract my foreskin partially. For the first few years either my mom or dad ensured that my foreskin was retracted as much as it would go to clean under the foreskin. I believe that I was in between 3 to 4 years old when I cleaned it myself during a bath or shower. I was born with undescended testicles and I was wrongly under the impression that two so called balls would be seen if I retracted the foreskin as much back as possible. I did not realize that two balls in my scrotum would be present. With that idea in my head I forced my foreskin back as far as it could. I ended up pulling the skin away from the glans clearly showing the corona of the glans.
Since some pain and bleeding was involved I had another wrong idea in my head. I now was convinced that the glans would fall of if I retracted it too much. For about several months I ensured that my penis was soapy so that my parents would have a difficult time retracting my foreskin to check if I cleaned it good enough. The amount of soap must have given my parents the impression that I was cleaning it well enough.

Having been taught to clean daily by retracting my foreskin, I did no have ny problems with odors. I knew what poor hygiene was since I had been able to smell an odor from some of my class mates during changing after swimming lessons.

Having married a Canadian born girl she was no used to having to had dealt with an uncircumcised penis. All her male cousins and nephews were circumcised. She was surprised to notice that due to the fact that I had a shower in the morning and one after I returned home after work. When our oldest son was born, my mother inlaw mentioned circumcision and my wife told her that there was no need to have him done. We taught both sons to retract and clean their foreskin and glans every day. Neither boy has a problem with odor. The only time that they themself complained about it smelling bad was when they traveled to Thailand with my parents. Having been on a plane for almost three quarters of a day, they had no opportunity to clean themselves. I had also told them from an early age to retract their foreskin during urination and then using toilet paper to dry the glans and foreskin.

In 2008, I ended up with a major kidney infection and pneumonia. I was diagnosed with a neurogenic bladder in 1995. Because I cannot completely empty my bladder I used to self cath. several times a day to ensure that the bladder is empty. During my stay in hospital, I noticed that I was passing gas through the penis and catheter. During a cystoscopy it was found that I had a fistula (hole) between my prostate and rectum. Due to the fact that I have a neurogenic bladder a suprapubic catheter was placed to ensure that the bladder is drained properly. The urologist thinks that I have created the fistula from self cathing.
Because the suprapubic catheter causing bladder spams and cramping, I at times leak urine from the penis. To cope with this I use condom catheters since protective underwear get wet very quickly because of the amount of urine leaked.
During the summer months I experience odors from the foreskin when I remove the condom catheters to apply a new one. Even if I would have been circumcised there would be no difference because of contact between the penile skin being constantly in contact with urine since urine is present between the penile skin and the condom catheter. Being circumcised when using a condom catheter will make difference if the foreskin is still present.
The foreskin also provides a protective role. When I first had a Foley in the penis for just over a year, I had some irritation from the catheter having movement with the urinary meatus. Had I been circumcised there would be far more movement, friction between the catheter and meatus. Having the foreskin in it's natural position, minimices the amount of friction in the meatus.

Yes the uncircumcised penis has a potential of having a more stronger odor, but it strictly depends on the personal hygiene habbits of the owner of the penis. Being able to practice good hygiene today, there is no need to have a smelly penis.

With women, there is also a possibility of odors due to the fact that secretions can be present between the labia. Again proper hygiene plays a big role.

The idea of the uncircumcised penis being unclean makes as little sense as saying that the rectum causes odor problems. No matter how much one would wipe to clean, one can never ensure that the rectum is completely clean of fecal matter. Being of Asian parents, my siblings and I were taught to clean with water after a bowel movement. In a hot climate, just wiping with toilet paper will cause hygiene problems, Because of that water is used to ensure better hygiene than just wiping.

I know that my response is very long, but I hope that you will be able to see as to why I feel that there is no excuse for a healthy male with a foreskin intact to have problems with odor.

All the best,

Ron
