Undecsended Testicles

My son who is 10Years old has just been diagnosed with undecsended testicles(both are up in his groin),this was missed when he was a baby. I just wanted to know what this means for his future fertility and what happens if both testicles are found to be damaged during the operation? Thanks, any information appreciated as most web sites deal with babies.

I myself was born with undescended testicles. One descended at about 2 years and the other not untill the age of 12.
The one descended after frequent manipulation in the groin area.

My wife an I have 3 children so there is hope that things will turn out OK. I'm 45 now.

All the best,

Ron
