Why do I have problems urinating first thing in the morning, but OK later?

I am a 74 year old male suffering from BPH symptoms for almost 20 years.  Been taking finasteride and doxazosin for many years.  Annual PSA never exceeds 2.5, and see my urologist twice a year.  Recently my flow has sporadically lessened, and this past week I have an extremely weak stream when I first get up in the morning, and am unable to empty my bladder the first time I try.  The weak stream can actually mean a slow drip.  If I wait another 10-20 minutes however, the flow will increase, and I can usually empty the bladder, or get close to it.  When I first get up, my penis is slightly engorged, but far from erect, which may be causing the problem.  Becomes completely flaccid after the 10-20 minute wait, which could account for the better flow.
.
I don't appear to have any other UTI symptoms like burning or fever or even any discomfort.  My real worry, of course, is prostate cancer, or a complete retention. which I don't want to experience again.  Is this morning weak stream something to be concerned about, and is there a solution?
I have been fortunate in that my BPH symptoms are mild compared to others.  I seldom have had the feeling of urgency, incomplete emptying, stopping and starting and the nocturia is usually only once per night.  Any information or incite is appreciated

It's not all that unusual to have problems urinatring 1st thing in the morning - the little sphincter valve tends to clamp dpown poretty tight to hold the urine in & can take time to 'relax' enough to go. I had that problem & like you, it was fine later in the day. Dr. prescribed Flowmax, which helped a lot. In my case, it turned out later I did have prostate cancer, had surgery Jul 31 & doing OK now, no longer need the Flowmax. But my PSA was much higher than yours, 2.5 isn't too bad, but even so, it can't be completely ruled out. Talk to your Dr. about this, he/she may refer you to a Urologist. Hope you get a good diagnosis & proper treatment...
