can someone help me if this is a kidney problem?

My back(lower) sometimes hurts and im not sure if it's because of my kidneys... i had previously had uti which had gone already and so i check my urine regularly. Recently its kind of bubbly and kinda smells a bit..but its not cloudy or anything.. i had my urinalysis check and my wbc is 0-2 and no protein, no blood, but there were threads i think they were called mucus threads..

Hi,

Your urinalysis appears to be within normal and there seems to be no indication of an overt infection.A WBC of 0-2 is acceptable. There are no bacteria,no casts and no urinary proteins.

I understand you are highly anxious about this but back pains do have several differentials .A musculoskeletal or arthritic pain may also be a differential.A  disorder involving the reproductive system ( ovaries) and gastrointestinal system  may also present with back pain.

I suggest you have a scan of the thoracolumbar spine just to rule out an underlying spine problem.A complete evaluation by a neurologist or rehabilitation medicine specialist may help rule out neuralgia (nerve related pain) as an underlying cause .

Engage in low impact or low intensity exercises like swimming. Also,be aware of your position when sitting down or lying in bed.You may take pain relievers to alleviate the pain.

Hi,

Continue to observe the character of your urine. A foul smelling urine is not normal and may need further evaluation if this persists. Observe proper genital hygiene. Intake of certain medications may cause a change in the appearance and smell of urine.

At this point, take plenty of water and engage in low impact exercises such as brisk walking and swimming everyday to improve circulation. Exercise helps in eliminating waste from the body.

Keep us posted with regards to your physician's advice.
