epididymis removal wise

I am a 48 yr old man, I had an infection in my epididymis for which i was on 6 different antibiotics before i found one that worked for roughly 4 and a half months. The cause of the infection is unsure as to whether it was a back flow of urine caused by cycling (of which i did do a lot of) or by someone not cleaning a medical t v camera properly which I had put up my rectum in hospital for a check for bowel disease. I went to the GUM clinic and had a full screening of tests done and was given the all clear. However I am left with inflamed nerve endings in all of that reigon. My epydidmis, rectum, thighs, hip joints and lower back have all got pain. After trying various strong pain killers my GP has finally found one that works on nerve endings pain called LYRICA which keeps me sane but not entirely pain free.My GP (who is brilliant by the way) informs me that I must expect to have to wait from 1 to 2 years for this condition to clear up.I am only on Lyrica 2 months but I am seeing no improvement and it is very hard to work and live with. The sorest part is the epydidymis and am wondering if it is possible to have it surgically removed and still keep your testicles?. I will not worry about producing any more sperm if it removes the pain. It would be a small price to pay.. Does anyone know if this is possible or would there be any further complications arrising from this. Has anyone else out there experienced the same thing and has your pain ever cleared up through time?

I've had epididymitis for almost 3 months.  I'm considering having it removed. Have you noticed any difference as far as having sex (in terms of the feeling of ejaculation) after having it removed? Thank you in advance.

Hi I am 34 and am just getting over having a infection in my epididymitis. Well actual having it removed. I have no idea what caused it and the doc didn't either. The infection had lasted for 5 weeks and the antibiotics didn't seem to help. I have been off work for the same amount of time. I have not had any trouble with my bladder either. I was on some of the power full pain pills, but not now. The doctor took out my epididymitis only, and left the testicular. That has been almost a week now and the pain level has went from a 10 to a 2 now. I have only used about 3 pain pill scene the surgery. I feel like a new man. I also had a vasectomy about 3 years ago, but I had no problems with it. Hope this helps.

Lyrica was prescribed because no other pain killers worked and Lyrica is the only one I have found that gives me pain relief. My GP also thought that it would help me as I would be a worrier and it had calming effects with it and I also suffer from M.E. and frybromylga

One thing that I forgot to mention is that my vasectomy did have complications.
I ended up with a hematoma that was surgically removed. It caused the left testicle to be sort of fixed in the scrotum with limited movement. This was a bit of a proble at times with sitting or working in certain positions.
A year after the hematoma, I ended up with a Staph infection of the left testicle and received an emergency orchiectomy. The possibility of loosing the testicle is very rare but is allways a possibility.
Due to a low testosterone level, most likely due to the fact that I had infections of both testicles, I now use monthly testosterone injections.

Hi,

I too have had numerous bouts of epididymitis as well as orchitis.

It is important to find out what causes these infections. After I had a vasectomy, I have not had any infections of the testicles since.

In 1996 after having been seen by several urologists it was found that I have a neurogenic bladder. This caused me not being able to empty my bladder completely, This most likely was the casue of my epididymitis or orchitis as well as the kidney infections.

Lyrica is a drug which is used to control nerve pain. I'm still on the older Elavil due to neuropathey problems and pain.

I wonder why your doctor decided on Lyrica? Do you have neurological problems?

Removing the epididymis can work, but it would be important to find out what causes the infections.

All the best,

Ron
