penis pain on right side

Hey MedHelp

I am a 21 yr old male and have recently experierced pains in the right side of my penis shaft.  I also examined myself and found a lump beneth my glans on the right side of the shaft not the foreskin.  The pain seems to come from the lump and radiate down the right side of my shaft. It doesn't hurt or affect urinating in any way.

The penis pain occurred the day after I masterbated (bear with me sorry) and I was wanting to know whether this could be connected and would the lump be the result of that as it has never happened before.  The pain is there sometimes and then dissipates and hurts with any movement even walking.  The pain and lump have persisted after about a week now and I am taking some inflammation medication too see if it helps and stopped all sexual activity but so far not.

Any advice as to what this might be would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
A sebaceous cyst is a closed sac occurring just under the skin which contains a "pasty" or "cheesy" looking substance called keratin. They may occur anywhere on body including shaft of the penis. Generally no treatment is required but they become painful then it means they are infected.

Similarly boil is a localized infection deep in the skin.
Boil on buttocks is usually due to plugged sweat glands that become infected or by an ingrown hair. I suggest you to get an examination done from a dermatologist so as to confirm the diagnosis.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Hey Bhupinder Kaur, MD

Thanks for the reply.  The lump is on the penis shaft not the foreskin.  Is it still possible its a sebaceous cyst even though its not on the foreskin.

Hi,
One of the possibilities for such a bump is a sebaceous cyst. Blocked sebaceous glands, swollen hair follicles and excessive testosterone production will cause such cysts.

The other possibilities are HPV wart(less likely), boil or some benign skin growth. I suggest you to get an evaluation done from a dermatologist. Please keep the area clean and apply some warm compresses and topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or Neosporin are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics and excision and drainage may be needed.
I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
