I forgot to tell you that my kidney stone was 6.1 mm and was removed on 8/25/08 by surgery..using a scope and basket the dr was able to reach it and pull it out...the stone was above the beginning of the bladder....since surgery, I cannot go to the bathroom on my own and have been on a catheter......I started taking flomax this past Monday....on Thursday, the catheter was removed; I went home and soaked in a bath to get my muscles to relax...by 2 hours later, I still could not urinate on my own (just dribbled) and had to go back to the ER and have a catheter inserted.....is this normal...do I just need to give this more time to heal for the bladder to shrink back?

thanks, Bubba56

Hello bubba56,

You need not be anxious for your symptoms. How big has been the stone when detected? The urination problem is due to the obstruction by the stone. The symptoms correlate well with the stone in the urethra.
The stone has to be removed either through flushing, surgery or through lithotripsy based on the size.
In the meanwhile continue flomax and consult your physician.
