Does vitamin d cause insomnia

I started taking cod liver oil and coconut oil supplements as of last week, but after taking them I couldn't sleep. I'm going on 5 days of not sleeping. I took the recommended dose at night and I noticed on the bottle that it has alot of energy in it. I stopped taking them 6 days ago but I still can't sleep good. I'll be lucky if I can get more than 4 hr. What can I do please? I never had sleeping problems until now.

Hello, I'm doing okay not great but it's still something. I talked to my primary doctor and she prescribed hydroxyzine. I still don't sleep as much but I rather sleep for two hours and wake up and two hours again and so on.... Than nothing. The sides effect is to much for me such as the vivid dreams and stomach ache so I'm gonna switch to something else. Thank you for the check up.

Sounds like you need a lot more time to recover.

I'm so sorry. ❤️

Insomnia gave me anxiety. I ended up needing Xanax sometimes to cut down anxiety in order to try to sleep.

I hope your blood sugar gets under control.

Not sure why they won't give you anything.

Melatonin didn't work for me either. In fact it caused me anxiety.

Some people do have issues with Vitamin D and insomnia.

I noticed my typo above. I meant to say reduce your Vitamin D not refuse it.

I don't think the fish oil is something you can take anymore.

Your body needs Vitamin D. There's not enough in food and it's not always available with the sun.

I meant when you take Vitamin D it turns off the melatonin in your brain to keep you up. That's why it should NOT be taken at night. It's basically like having the sun on in your head. Your body feels like it's daytime. If you take it in the morning, your body should be ready for sleep at night.

Unfortunately you have issues. Not sure if it's the D and the fish oil combined...or just the D.

I take 10,000iu of Vitamin D every morning. I tried 15,000iu and it was too much for me. My sleep was messed up for at least 3 days. I'm not sure how much you took.

Keep taking magnesium. Epsom Salt bath helps get magnesium transdermally.

The half life of Vitamin D3 Cholecalciferol is just 25 hours in that form and as Calcidiol it's half life is 3 weeks. So every 3 weeks you have to restore your levels and with a substance that only last approximately 24 hours.

If you try Vitamin D as a supplement instead of fish oil, start at a lower dose. Did you get blood work that said you're deficient?

I'm at the hospital at the moment so I'll know the results in a few. I'm diabetic so this whole sleep is messing with my blood sugar. The supplement I took was nature valley brand. I believe the cod liver oil has vitamin A and D. I tried the magnesium but it had no affect for me. I'll try taking it to see more results. It could be a bad sleep habits that I started that I have to practice mentally to get help. The doctors so far said that I have to practice calming my mind and can't give me any medicine. Thank you though for the help.
No they didn't say anything about me being deficit

I was searching and I found lots of people in the internet with serious sleeping problems after taking vitamin D3. I think that vitamin D3 mechanisms are still not completely understood...

Some people have issues with fish oil/Omega 3. It can cause anxiety/insomnia. It did in my case when I bought supplements.

Also...D3 needs to be taken in the morning or early afternoon if you forget your dose. Taking at night can cause insomnia.

*Take it in the morning. Vitamin D temporarily pauses the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone, so don’t take it at night.

You can switch to over the counter Vitamin D3 supplements if the fish oil is causing issues.

If you still have insomnia, you can also try refusing your daily dosage of D3.

You also need to be taking magnesium with the D3. It helps balance the calcium in your body and will relax muscles.

Thank you for the response, I really appreciate it. Are you saying that I should continue them in order to sleep? I picked up magnesium 250 iu today and even that not working sadly. I really don't want to continue these supplements as my sleeping was perfect before I decided to take them. I was wondering how long will it take until I go back to normal. Oh I took melatonin and and that does not work.
