Sunday Weigh-In June 3, 2018

Good morning...  first things first - my apologies for being MIA last week and thanks to AnnieBrooke for stepping in and posting a thread in my absence.  :-)

As most of you know by now, I was up north and Sunday morning, I was helping clean up the aftermath of a wedding on Saturday; in fact, at the time I should have been posting the weigh-in thread, I was in the process of helping my 2 of my sisters make breakfast for about 35-40 people before they got on the road to travel home from the wedding...  We were in small-town South Dakota and the nearest restaurant in any direction in which anyone could get breakfast was about 2 hrs away.  Being die-hard farm girls, we don't have it in us to send people off with empty tummies... It really wouldn't have mattered what I was doing, though... being that remote, I didn't have a signal for my internet connection most of the time anyway, though I did find out, too late, that the hotel had free Wi-fi if I'd had time to sit down and write the post...  :-)

I made a pretty mean sausage gravy at my sister's before we went from one side of the state to the other and we had biscuits, eggs to scramble, and fresh fruit that we also took with us, so people didn't have to get on the road hungry, wondering where they'd find breakfast... Of course, I had to "sample" my gravy to make sure it and the biscuits we got were fit to eat... :-)

Anyway, I was away from home for 11 days, mostly at my sister's, except for the time we were at the wedding location, and we ate out most of that time... kind of too bad because my sister and I are both pretty good cooks; but then when I consider that, maybe it's a good thing we ate out so much... lol  We do tend to like to eat the things we shouldn't, like mashed potatoes and gravy, sandwiches, chips, etc.  My sister also tends to use salt on things, which I don't use at all because it makes me retain fluid so much.

Anyway, over the 11 days I was gone, I gained 4.6 lbs, a good share of which was fluid, as my fingers and toes looked like little sausages and my ankles were almost non-existent when I got home.  I've lost 2.0 lbs of that in the 2 days I've been home and I expect to lose a bit more of it as the swelling continues to go down.  My feet aren't too bad now, but my fingers are still swollen, as my rings are quite tight and it still hurts to bend my fingers.

At this point, I'll claim a 2 lb gain, since I know I ate a lot of things I shouldn't have eaten (like Rueben sandwiches prepared by a friend who invited us to lunch...) and I certainly didn't get the exercise I should have gotten while I was gone...

Enough about me; it's your turn... how is everyone else doing?  Up, down, the same?  Let us know how you are...

~~Wishing everyone a successful week~~

I'm also heeding the classic advice and eating breakfasts more regularly, a couple of poached eggs, usually. The protein carries me into the day. So although my stomach never met a Dr. Pepper it didn't instantly turn into fat around the waist, I seem to be slowly, slowly losing due to other habits that are more healthy.

You're doing well.  I've never thought it was a good idea to deprive ourselves of all the things we enjoy, because we ultimately end up binging, which is never a good thing, either.  Lunch with your mom and stepdad is something you should enjoy and not feel guilty about having a nice meal.

I think it's a good thing that you're starting to eat breakfast; I need to get back to doing that, though the protein doesn't hold me like it does most people because I don't absorb it.  I have to add some fat to it, but that's not a bad thing either as long as I make sure I'm adding one of the more healthful fats.

I dropped another 2 lbs of my water weight and got back to where I was before I left to go up north, but picked it up again yesterday by eating some potato chips... bad girl!!  In addition, my stomach isn't working really well right now, so I'm having some other issues that I hope to get worked out soon, which should help as well.

Hopefully, I'll be back on track by the weekend, though I don't expect to be down by any great amount...

Wow, a trip to South Dakota! That is a distance from home. It sounds like the salt weight will continue to go away. I actually find that sometimes a binge will go away pretty fast, because the body seems to recognize that the food is not the usual (or something like that!)

My son and I took my mom and stepdad out to lunch at a lovely Italian restaurant yesterday that serves big portions. I had a half Caprese salad that was the size of a whole Caprese salad anywhere else, and a half serving of angel hair pasta and prawns that filled a whole plate, and this strawberry soda with cream thing that was very rich. Fobbed off some of the pasta onto mom and stepdad but ate everything else, and ended the meal with a Dr. Pepper!

But this was about 2 pm. I was not hungry at dinner time and so didn't eat, and did drink a bunch of tea and pee half the night, and now I am at my lowest weight since beginning the challenge, about 5 lbs. less than my high weight in the first week. (Can't tell if it's like 4.9 lbs. or 5.1 lbs., since I can't remember what the decimal was on the original weight.)

It does sometimes seem like once in a while a debauch of that sort is recognized by my body as unfamiliar. It's not like I threw up, but my body definitely told me by feeling super stuffed until nighttime not to eat anything else. So far, my basic dieting to get the pounds to slowly leave seems to consist more of paying attention to how hungry I am (or not), than to stop with the bad habits. I would say I'm watching the sugar (and to some extent I am -- desserts and general sweet snacks are a thing of the past) but then, you know, Dr. Pepper and strawberry soda.

Have a good week!
