Sunday Weigh In May 6, 2018

Hello and good morning everyone.  How are we going on this fine, foggy morning - oh, it's not foggy in your neck of the woods, huh?  lol  Well, it's lifting here, too... We're having a bit of tropical issue come through, though it's not going to be anything big.  It's kind of early in the season, but maybe we'll get it all out of the way and be done with it... nah, I don't think so.  :-)

Anyway, I wasn't doing too well last week, because I'd gained 2+ pounds and I'm in a better place this week, because I've dropped that back off again, so I'm back where I was 2 weeks ago... grrrr  I think I've made the comment that I've gained/lost the same 10 lbs several times over the past 10 yrs.  I'm getting pretty familiar with this scenario by now and it's getting pretty old.  About the time I think I'm doing well, something happens and it all goes to heck.

I'm going on vacation up north in 14 days and I'd really like to drop at least a few pounds before I go, so I'm really going to try hard - we'll see how it goes.

So - how about everyone else?  I know most of you have been doing very well, even in spite of being ill and/or having other family issues, etc. Let us know your story this week.

~~Wishing everyone a healthy, happy, successful week~~

I am down 3 lbs and not a healthy weight loss.  My body reacts to stress in this way no matter what i do.  I try to eat and just gag.  This will all even out once we get going and i pull myself together.  Today was better.  Talked with her and she had gotten a good nights sleep and was upbeat!  Still trying to wrap my head around all of this.

Wow, girl - 3 lbs is not a good thing under these circumstances, but many of us do react to stress that way.  I used to do the same thing; now cortisol takes over and I gain instead of losing...
Yes, it will all even out once you pull yourself together.  You are the one she will lean on and need the most.  You've got this...

Out for Mexican food for Cinco de Mayo last night, and I'm up .6 of a pound today from last week. In other words, I'm maintaining at right around the same weight, not losing. This is not terrible, since I lost in the first weeks of the challenge, but it shows I'm getting casual about the last few pounds.  I need to look again at the unflattering tummy shots I took of myself at the beginning of the challenge, to get re-motivated to stay away from the sweet drinks.

Well, an increase of 0.6 lb isn't so serious, especially after going out for Mexican food, which probably had a lot of salt/sodium.  You can probably figure on some fluid retention there and maybe not much in the line of fat.

It's amazing how we, often, know exactly what our downfall is, isn't it?  We each have one; yours seems to be the sweet drinks.  I'm not sure how many you drink each day, but sometimes it works to start out by replacing just one of each day with a glass of water until eventually, you've replaced all of them with a glass of water.  Perhaps that would work instead of just kicking them completely all at once because many times it's the caffeine as well as the sugar if you're drinking a caffeinated beverage as well?
Oh, I know exactly what it is. I drink (sugared, not diet) Dr. Pepper. It's a nice brew of caffeine and sugar! Sometimes I am able to kick the habit entirely, but quitting has never stuck for more than a few months. It's a lot like an alcoholic who is not entirely worried about being a drinker. I often start again when there is a lot of stress and no particular new successes to celebrate. I always mix it half and half with sparkling water (it's actually too sweet for me when unadulterated) or even water, and sometimes the mix is even weaker (1 part Dr. Pepper with 3 parts water is enough to give me the flavor and not taste too thin). But I would say lately I'm drinking a 20-fluid-ounce bottle in a couple of days, except those nights when I went through the drive through and chugged a straight one -- even though thinned, a 20-ounce bottle is 250 calories added to my normal eating. It's enough to keep my tummy. And along with the sugar and the caffeine, I'm sure it has is a lot of sodium and many unhealthy chemicals. The problem is that it does not do me more damage. If I were getting massively fat from it, I would be able to stop. But as I said at the beginning of the challenge, I look normal, it's only me who knows I'm hiding a tummy with careful dressing, and drinking too much sugar.
"I'm sure it has is a lot of sodium and many unhealthy chemicals."    lol  You're right, most sodas have a lot of sodium.  I used to drink coke because it had more sodium than Pepsi... then when I was told to go on a sodium free diet, that was the one thing I couldn't give up - goodness, caffeine, sodium, and sugar all in one bottle!!  They were asking way too much of me... I switched to diet decaff, thinking I was doing myself a favor but found out that artificial sweeteners are much worse for us than sugar even though they have no calories.  I was eventually able to stop drinking all sweet drinks.   My drinks of choice are water, black coffee (once in a while, with a splash of milk) and marshmallow tea (which soothes my burning bladder - that's another story...lol).  Once in a while, I'll drink green or another flavored tea, such as chai, chamomile, lavender, etc.  Sometimes I'll have a brew, but I have to be home and ready to sleep because it knocks me on my butt... lol

"The problem is that it does not do me more damage" - unfortunately, the damage is gradual and it doesn't show until it's done.  I'm watching the results on a daily basis.  It's sad and life-changing.

But then who am I to talk?  I have my own vices... lol
I should say, the problem is that it does not do me more *obvious* damage.

Good morning:). We had thunder and lightening last night and it’s kind of drizzling outside. We have been having sunshine and it was really nice. Well I’m down 2 pounds this week.  I have been eating healthy and didn’t snack on sugary things. I really want to be thinner so I’ve been telling myself nothing tastes as good as thin feels. That statement has helped me stick to my guns this week.  Plus having weigh ins on Sundays.  Thank you so much Barb135 for starting this challenge. It’s really sinking in that I want to lose weight. This week I’ve really put forth an effort and I’m happy with my loss.  I still need to get moving and not be so sedentary.  I’m taking baby steps though because I didn’t get here overnight.  I have a lot of weight to lose and I don’t want to lose my momentum.  Just taking this one day at a time and sometimes one hour or minute at a time. Food is such a big part of my life and I feel like I’m grieving a bit. Friday’s have always been my order a pizza night but last night I didn’t do it.  It was a small victory and I’m celebrating that.  Oh and planning my meals has helped me this week. I also was able to say no to a Costco hot dog which is something I love. All in all a good week.

Congratulations Kelcoo...  I'm so pleased that you're down another 2 lbs and you're on a roll with the healthy food and not snacking on sugary food.  I like your motto that "nothing tastes as good as thin feels".  I really happy that the challenge is helping you so much.  Sometimes, it's something simple that helps us focus on a goal.

You're right that you didn't get where you are overnight, so you won't get where you want to be overnight either.  It is, typically, all about baby steps.  Losing weight fast often gives us the incentive to keep going, but it's also a clue that we might not be able to keep it off; that's not what we want.  We want to adopt those habits that will change our efforts from a "diet" to a lifestyle that we don't have to think so much about all the time...

Congratulations on not ordering that pizza on Friday or getting the Costco hotdog.  Treating ourselves once in a while helps keep us from feeling deprived... Perhaps you could find a recipe for a healthy pizza and make one for yourself??  I have a recipe that uses cauliflower for the crust instead of white flour - it's different but quite tasty.

Or perhaps you could spend the saved money on something else you've been wanting/needing; starting a savings account or adding that saved money to your existing savings account balance is a special "treat" all its own...

You're doing great; keep up the good work.
