Sunday Weigh-In October 28, 2018

Good morning... Another week has gone by and we're definitely getting into fall - yes, we have fall here in Florida.  The temps have been steadily dropping and although it's a long way from what some of you have been getting, it's chilly for us, considering that our lows have been in the 70's since April.  It's 57° this morning, which is the lowest we've had so far; a good drop from the 62° we had yesterday morning... I don't mind the chillier weather because I can always add another blanket or put on a long sleeved shirt, but I sure don't like the shorter days - I do need my sunshine/daylight...

Anyway, there hasn't been a lot going on here.  Things have "kind of" settled down a bit.  I think I mentioned a while back that my daughter was having some issues; there's been a temporary resolution to that issue and a date set for (hopefully) resolving it permanently... but then I could be naive... lol  Actually, it's a way from being over, but I'm trying to be optimistic.  :-)

Our son's truck broke down last week and of course, they don't have the money to fix it. He and his wife both work, but it's hard for families to make ends meet these days... Of course, we'll loan the money...

We all know that we help take care of our kids no matter how old they get because presumably, they'll be taking care of us, at some point.

Anyway, aside from that, I've spent most of my time in my shop making ink pens... If you haven't had time, take a look at the photos in my profile to see a few of the ones I've made.  Those were the first ones; I've done a few since then and most of them have turned out really well, although, like anyone that produces things from scratch/by hand, I've made some mistakes/had a few failures but that's okay.  It keeps me busy and it's all a learning experience.  I hope to post some more photos later today...

Diet-wise, I've kind of slacked off and haven't been eating the veggies I should be, nor have I been eating the healthful fats that help me lose (coconut and olive oils, avocado, etc).  I discovered that adding MCT oil to some of my foods also helps, but I've even slacked on doing that, so I need to pick up my diet momentum.

Weight-wise, I've stayed pretty close to the same as I've been the past couple of weeks.  I've bounced around, fluctuating up to about 3 lbs/day with water weight, but my morning weights have been within a couple tenths of what I've been the past 2 weeks, which means I seem to be stuck...  This morning, I forgot to weigh before I'd had about 3 cups of coffee (I was up at 4:00 am) and by the time I stepped on the scale just as I started writing this, I weighed more than I did last night and I know that's not accurate, so I'm not taking that as a serious weigh-in...

I'm going walking as soon as I finish this, so I'll weigh when I come back and average that with my morning weight because I will have dropped the extra water weight from my morning coffee...

Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it...

Now it's your turn... how are y'all doing?  I bet everyone is doing better than I am since I'm barely managing to hold steady...

Hi Barb!  you've had a lot going on sister!!  not sure about your daughters issues but resolving permanently in a way you like sounds positive! And your son's truck.  I understand this.  I live in fear that 'something' is going to go wrong and need fixed.  And if it is big ticket . . .   whether for the house or vehicles or kids . . . yikes.  We try to have a wad saved.  But you know, for us?  Things come in waves.  Like everything goes wrong at once it seems.  Anyway, I'm glad your son can count on you to help when needed.  

I want to lose 10 pounds.  I want to do this I want to do this I want to do this.  I'm committed.  I'll weight myself today and start today.  It gets into a tricky time of year but it is actually a little easier for me when kids are in school and I'm not working so hard to make sure they are happy all day long.  LOL.  I can actually get out and do things and watch what I eat better.  And we all tend to go to bed earlier (them much earlier and then me as well) so night time eating is less.  Etc.  so now I try to be healthy with eating choices and we'll see what I can do to lose these pounds.  For real this time!
Hi SM... Yeah, there's been a lot going on but it is what it is...

My daughter's situation has been pretty bad all summer and is temporarily resolved and I shouldn't really even talk about a "permanent" solution, because there can't be one for quite a few years but the next one will be more permanent than the temporary one they're living under now... if that makes any sense... As for my son - a whole different story.  I've tried to get him to save for a rainy day, but if he has a dime, he spends a dime...  :-(  Anyway, he has to have a way to get back and forth to work because his wife can only work at home for so long so there aren't a lot of choices.

Anyway, enough of that...

We all have those times, during which it's easier to lose than it is at other times.  I've been trying really hard to keep my eating steady so I'm not alternating between "good" and "bad" food.  It's getting easier all the time and I don't have to think about it as much either.  

If you're committed to losing it this time, you'll succeed.  I can feel it... lol  Good luck.

Last week. I had lost a massive point-two pounds (.2) but that wasn't  bad because the week before I had lost a pound or more but thought it was only due to some food poisoning and would come back. The .2 loss the following week was in its own way a triumph because it meant I kept off the pound that had come away more or less under duress. :)

This week, though, I'm up, but not much -- it's that same .2 of a pound. I'm just glad it's not the pound-plus that came off with the food poisoning.

We ate at Panda Express last night, and though I didn't add soy sauce, I gobbled down orange chicken like it was my last meal on earth, and walnut shrimp as well. It would amaze me if they didn't use a lot of sodium, and along with the sugar in the glaze that makes the chicken taste so good it could be that one meal that put me in the upward direction and not down a couple of more points of a pound. Or at least that is what I'm telling myself. :) I've avoided candy this week and only sneaked out with my Dr. friend a few times, so more or less, I've done OK on the carb front. But we did really pig out last night! In a way, though, I'm glad that if I'm pigging out it is on a meal, and not on snacks. They are a much more insidious habit.

This has me at a good five pounds down from when we began the challenge, and it's held, in an honest fashion for several weeks. I was aiming for ten but since I look mostly OK at five (could stand the tummy to come down a bit more, especially at certain times of the month) it's not like I'm complaining. I just need more of a serious try to get that last five pounds off. Hence my thoughts about Curves last week. (I haven't gone over to check them out yet, prey to doubts I would actually do it even if I sign up.)

Well, you did good keeping that pound + off from being under stress/ill.  Puttin on 0.2 lb after eating at Panda Express isn't such a big deal since, as you say, I'm sure they do add a lot of salt to their food - not to mention all the sugar in the glaze...

I'd have to agree that it's better to eat "hearty" at a meal vs snacking and you're doing well with the break with the good doctor, though he does seem to call out to you at times... lol... although not as much as some of us with our friendly cravings... :-)

Five pounds since the beginning of the challenge is nothing to sneeze at.  Unlike me, you've gone down steadily, whereas I've bounced all over the place - up a couple, down a couple, up some more, then down... it's only recently that I've been on a downward trend, but even at that on a daily basis, I tend to bounce around within a 3-pound range... Overall, I've lost about 4 pounds, but from the way I bounce around, I could gain that back overnight... that's the frustrating thing...

As for your tummy issue, since you say you look okay having lost the 5 pounds other than the tummy, perhaps you simply need to tone/tighten the muscles?  One thing about Curves is that a workout is only 30 minutes and when I was going, they recommended 3 times/week, not every day so it doesn't really take a huge chunk of time, but I know what you mean about actually doing it.  I did it when I signed up because I stopped on my way home from work, but now that I'm retired and no longer drive right by the place every day, I'm afraid it would be too easy to say "oh heck, I'll work in the shop today and go to Curves tomorrow..."  That could become a daily habit...  lol
