Daily Thought is a question

What Makes You Happy?

Do you know what makes you truly happy? It's important to sit back and really think about this question. Grab a pen and some paper, and write it down.

What makes YOU truly happy?

Most people can tell you about what makes their spouses, children, parents and even their friends happy. But when it comes to knowing the little things that make our hearts sing, we often have no clue.

Children make mothers happy, husbands make wifes happy, but what makes you as an individual happy?

In order to live a life of pure happiness, a truly authentic life, you must know what makes you happy. Not knowing this can lead us into feeling there's something missing in our lives.

Take the time today to find delight in the simple pleasures of life. Notice all the small things that are often overlooked which bring you joy throughout your day. Think about the moments of happiness that are uniquely your own.

Doing this myself, I've discovered I love "feeding my mind" with positive affirmations and readings.Warm fuzzy socks and a hot water bottle,The scent of lavender,Recognizing and embracing these moments of happiness will lead you to living the life you've always wanted. So, tell me, what makes your heart sing?

Well, Elaine -- that's another good one and would at one time have really made me ponder, but as I've grown older, I've learned a lot of things.

My husband told me one time "you don't make me happy anymore".   At first, I was devastated by such remark, but the more I thought about it the more I realized that I had "NEVER" made him happy and visa versa..............because we can't ever do that.

There's no way that we can MAKE someone happy.  Happiness comes from within.  I'm happy with my husband, but HE doesn't make that way --- I do it by finding joy in the little every day things.  Sometimes a special look he gives me, a pat on the hand, just something that lets me know I'm special to him.  Sometimes, there are days that go by and there are none of those little things from HIM, but I still find them.

One thing that really makes me happy is being outside - watching the birds, listening to their songs, trees, seeing the blooming flowers in my garden, hearing the wind rustle through the leaves or as right at this minute, listening to the desperately needed rain.  I was at the pharmacy today and saw a young mother carrying her sleeping baby; the elderly couple walking along holding hands...........I could go on and on but I'm sure everyone gets the point.

-- Happiness comes from within; and there's no end to the happiness we can find, if we just stop to SEE what we are looking at and HEAR what we are listening to.

I have heard this song many times before...but heard it once again on the radio today.  This is one that makes my heart sing and reminds me that I am alive and the best is yet to come.  : )  Oddly enough, it came from a show that my daughter watches on TV, can't remember which one and honestly don't like the show, but the song I like.

"Unwritten"

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Staring at the blank page before you

Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance

Great post Elaine!  Very thought provoking.  : )

Now to answer the question....some of the things that make my heart sing (and my heart only....no fulfilling the needs of my family)....I love music, lots of different kinds, just anything with that certain something that perks up my soul.  I love to read, specifically I am a sucker for Classic literature (my English Lit teacher loved me...lol)...my very favorite would be "Fanshawe" by Nathaniel Hawthorne.  One thing that really 'does it' for me is painting.  In order to answer this question with honesty, I had to actually look at some of my paintings to see how long it has been.  Would you believe the last was in 2004?  Amazing I have let it go so long.  Must etch out time for this fun hobby.  : )
