Sunday Weigh-In June 23, 2019

Good morning... I can't believe another week has gone by and we're officially into summer now.  I think it's going to be another hot day here - we've been getting into the upper 90's lately and yesterday I heard on TV that our heat index was something like 105°... wow - I thought the  upper 90's was bad enough!!  :-)

Anyway, there hasn't been a lot going on this week so it's pretty quiet.  It's been too hot to work in my shop, but I do have several projects I need to get done so I may have to bite the bullet and go work there anyway.  If I get started early in the morning before it gets super hot, I can get a couple hours in, anyway.  I also have a lot of cleaning I need to do inside, so ideally, I could work in the shop when it's cooler outside and in the house in the air conditioning later in the day... the problem is that once I've worked outside and gotten hot, I crash when I come inside so the cleaning ends up going by the wayside.

Anyway, that's my dilemma for now; I'll get it figured out, at some point.

Weight-wise, I'm holding steady.  Well, actually, according to the scale this morning, I'm down 0.2 lbs from last week, but today is the same as many days, I should be down, at least a  pound by noon, then probably back up by a couple of pounds by bedtime... No, I don't weigh myself that many times every day, but I've done some experimenting, both, here at home and with my doctor's scales.

I'm trying to get back on a healthier eating plan- I'm still struggling with that after being up north when my MIL passed away.  I can't believe how eating poorly changes the cravings and tastes for different foods.  It takes a while to get out of that "mode" - at least, it does for me... I'm paying dearly for it, as well, in the  form of acid reflux and other stomach issues.  I would not have believed that a few days of poor eating could take so long to recover from.

Also, not helping, with the heat we've had here, I haven't been exercising (walking) like I should.  Oh, yeah, I have a treadmill, but find it almost impossible to get myself into  the room to use it every day... I'd rather be outside walking but I'm not getting myself outside to do that, either!!  I know exercise helps with digestion, building muscle etc but there are some extenuating circumstances and it's just not working as easily as I'd like for it to.

Anyway, I have 4 pounds to drop in order to get back to where I was before we went up north, so I have to get with the program.  I see my doctor again  the first part of of August and I'd like to have them off by then; we'll see how that goes!!

So - that's my story, how about you?  I hope you've met/exceeded your goals - or, at least, done better than I have.  Let us know how it's going.

~~Wishing everyone a wonderful, successful week~~

I did also stay steady. When I finally woke up enough to weigh standing with my feet in their usual spots on my  fussy scale, it said I was down .2 three times in a row. I'll take it. Nothing to be thrilled about but not gain.

It's obvious as the weeks go on that it's not what I eat but how much, and this week I did eat lightly. My husband and son have been staying at the farm and doing fun day trips, and that helps. When we're together we have big meals, and when I'm alone I eat much less.

I've been doing paperwork; all the fuss of signing for the house and finding people get the old house ready for sale resulted in a stack of documents, bills, business cards and folders on the dining table and me not being able to find things when I needed them. So I brought out a box of file folders and got out my accordion-like file stand, and just started making files. There were at least 20 categories ("House title," "Painter," "Paid bill records," "Landscaper,"  "Utilities sign-up for New House," and like that) in the stack pretty randomly, probably mostly in the order they came into the house. Now I've got them together in categories, prioritized, all the bills paid, and have made necessary calls along the way (refilling a prescription, making an appointment, ordering garbage service for the new house, etc.) Once things get buried, I can't function, and the boys giving me the necessarily solitude to do the archaeological dig through the stratified layers of incoming documents helped a lot.

We went to the new middle school to see about signing our son up (school is out but the office staff is still in), and the helpful lady at the desk let us walk around with her and described the layout of the building. My son's reaction was that it has a lot of the same things he doesn't like in the other school (he thinks middle school starts too late in the day and gets out too late, which this one does the same way since they are in the same district), and it's certainly not a small school with its 1,300 students. But he didn't seem worried, more just planning for how to cope. It's all going to depend on the students, I think. If they have the horrible culture of the school where my son went last year, I think he will like school about as much as he did last year. If the kids are more muted in their behavior, he'll probably be able to stand it.

My next issue this week is to find a rug guy who will come pull the rugs out of our new house. We don't want as much carpet as the builder put in (it's not great for our son's allergies) and the flooring place will pull it out, but they'll throw it away, which really bothers me at the waste. My husband's nephew is a carpet broker, I have to nerve myself to look stupid and call him and ask if he knows any installers who would be glad to just come and take the carpet out and keep it. Since it's brand new and has barely even been walked on, it seems like someone might want it.

Hope everyone has a great week!

This goes to prove how different we all are... your weight loss goes by how much you eat and I have to be mindful of what I eat.  If I'm eating things that are good for my body, the amount doesn't seem to make that much difference - within reason, of course...  I, too, eat different foods when I'm along vs when others are present.

It's been so long since we moved and had to go through all that paperwork, I don't envy you having to do that.  It sounds like you've got it all organized nicely now, though.  I remember doing something very similar when we were preparing to move here and once we got here and got settled, I put everything for this property into one large envelope and everything for the other property into another large envelope and put them away - never to be looked at again.  lol

I think your son is the first I've heard of that doesn't like middle (or high) school starting later.  Most kids that age love being able to sleep in a little bit.  When I was working for the school system, it struck me so odd that younger, elementary kids had to start earlier and were out waiting for the buses  in the dark, when older kids were still in bed.

I hope your son makes lots of new friends and likes the new school this year.  Hopefully, it will be a more pleasant year for him.

As for the carpet - it would seem that perhaps Habitat for Humanity or something like that might have someone who could come get the carpet since it's basically new.  They could use it for rehabs or sell it in one of their stores.  That would be worth a phone call, too, if your husband's nephew doesn't know of anyone.
Thanks for the carpet idea. I think the trick is finding someone who will bother. I might even be able to take it up myself, but have no way to get it to anyone (no truck, no burly friends to lift the heavy rolls.)
