Obesity

I am 21 years old and have struggled with obesity since I was a kid. I am 274 lbs as of right now with high blood pressure. I want to get in shape and lose the excess fat. I dont look healthy at all and my family has a history of obesity and many health problems come with it. I want to prevent these health issues and start living/eating/working out right. I have watched the biggest loser and have always tried to lose weight but I can't or I don't know how. Please help me live healthier and stronger. I need to lose this weight. I have hard time sleeping and breathing because of it. If i dont lose any weight I am afraid I will be dead by the time im 30 if that

I am currently 24 years old and predisposed to high blood pressure, diabetes, colon cancer, and i have been for the last 4 months losing weight with success. Look up the Dukan Diet. It is a High protein and vegetable diet. I started at 277 and now i am currently 245.6 lbs. I has worked wonders for me, hopefully it works for you as well. I started just walking 20 min a day, now i am up to 45 min a day and lifting weights as well. Good luck!!!!

The first things I'd recommend are that you get your thyroid tested to insure proper function.  Get the following tests (and don't settle for less): TSH, Free T3 and Free T4.  These will determine if you have hypothyroidism.

You should also get your blood sugar levels tested.  I'd recommend a blood glucose and an A1c test.  This will help determine if you have, or are at risk of type II diabetes.

Once those are determined, you should start out by making very simple changes to your diet and/or exercise.  For diet, maybe start out drinking water instead of sodas or fruit juice.  Eat carrot/celery sticks instead of a candy bar or pastry.  Switch to whole grain breads, pastas and limit servings/day.  Just a few suggestions to start with.

For exercise - park further from the entrance, when you shop so you have to walk further.  Try yoga, which takes considerable concentration and will help strengthen your core muscles and  help you breathe better.  I don't recommend strenuous exercise right off the bat.  Start slow with a few minutes of walking (30 if you can, but less, if not), light yoga, etc until you build muscles and can tolerate more.

You didn't get obese all at once, you can't expect to lose the weight all at once, so just take it slow and easy; one step at a time.

check out the eat clean diet. It is not a fad and it is very easy to follow. Tosca Reno had lots of self help books and Oxygen Magazine can help with exercises etc. or, better yet....just take a 1/2 hour walk everyday. eventually you will build up to an hour a day. good heart-healthy exercise and uses lots of your muscles. The Eat Clean Diet books are about $24.
