Sunday Weigh In August 23, 2020

Good morning.  How are things going this morning?  I hope everyone is doing well.  We've been getting a lot of rain here, but for right now, it's bright and sunny... yay!!

It's been a pretty quiet week for me... Back in March, I'd seen my ophthalmologist to see about getting my cataracts removed.  I did the initial check-up and had an appointment set up to schedule the first of the actual surgeries, but of course, that appointment was canceled because of COVID-19 and medical facilities were shut down.  When they called to cancel the appointment, they said someone would call me when they began doing cataract surgeries again, but no one ever did - what a surprise!!  Not.  :-)   Anyway, I finally called them last week and explained the situation.  They originally said the first available appointment was mid-September.  Then, "on second thought", after quite a few minutes on hold and some fumbling around, etc, I was finally given an appointment for Friday (8/21).   Maybe because they hadn't called me as promised?  IDK, but I took the appointment.

Even though I'd had all the tests done back in March, I still had to go through a lot of them again, because it had been so long, plus I had to do some others in addition.  The whole thing took almost 3 hrs, but I have my surgeries scheduled for September 8 and 10... WooHoo.  I'll still have to have glasses for reading but that won't be so bad.  I've worn glasses since I was 16, so I can't say I'm not used to it.  :-).

Aside from that, I haven't really done much of anything because some days, I still feel pretty horrible.  I've begun adding extra thyroid medication and that does help.  I can, at least, stay awake all day, even if I'm ready for be by 9:00.  I don't know, at this point, what the extra medication is doing to my thyroid hormone levels... I'll order some blood work in the next couple of weeks to find out.

I've been trying to get more exercise and still trying to cut back on the amount of food I'm eating.  I, particularly, have to be careful not to eat too close to bedtime as I end up with acid reflux, shortly after lying down... That's, partially, due to being hypothyroid.  Some dill pickle juice often helps settle the acid so I can go back to sleep.

I found out last week that my neighbors plan to be back here in a few weeks so I've been trying to get back into walking, as this is my walking partner and I'll need to be able to keep up with her.

My efforts have netted a 1 pound loss for the week.  Yay me!!  I was down 3 lbs earlier in the week, but with fluctuation caused by swelling/edema, I wasn't able to hold that.  Anyway, a pound is a pound and it's going in the right direction, so I'll take it.

This week, we have a couple of weather systems that could be somewhat unpredictable for a few days, so we'll see how the week goes.

What about you?  How was your week and were you able to reach your goal(s)?

~Wishing everyone a wonderful, successful week~~

This week was busy but not interesting, with repairs (washing machine, dryer, fridge, and drip irrigation line) and phone meetings about our wills and life insurance. Son and husband have cooked up the idea that we need a new car, so they went to look at it. (I'm unenthusiastic -- we might need cash in this next year more than a new car.) We did have a drive-by birthday parade yesterday for my aunt, which was fun. We've done three this summer for various family members' birthdays.

My weight is holding about the same. This morning it was .3 of a pound more than last week's weigh-in, which means if I skip lunch it will be the same as last week. lol  Unfortunately, this is about ten pounds more than I want to be. I've been walking, but haven't been able to get up to more than a mile. It feels painful, like long pins and needles in the legs, and if I go up a hill I get short of breath and pins and needles in the chest. I went to see the doctor about this last February, and she kind of shrugged it off. All I can guess is that it's the result of not being in good shape. My husband is running or walking every day -- I'm a total piker by comparison.

This upcoming week we have more tedious maintenance appointments, this time for the pets. The vet clinics are all non-entry now, you meet the tech or the vet in the parking lot and hand off Fluffy. But at least I was finally able to get a grooming appointment for our dog, so I won't be handing off a matted dustmop at the vet. She was last trimmed by someone who knew what they were doing six months ago. I trimmed her myself in the meantime, but mostly just made her look like her coat was nibbled off by sheep. So this week she gets cleaned up and also gets her booster shot. None of this is exciting, but it will be good to get it done.

Hope everyone stays well and safe.
