Sunday Weigh In - July 31, 2022

Good morning.  I hope everyone is doing well this week.  It looks like it's going to be another hot day here, as well as many other parts of the country/world.  We could certainly use a break from the heat - a little rain might help!!

It's been another busy week.  We got our new lawn mower last Sunday, so husband and I had to take turns trying it out.  I suspect I'll be using it more than husband will, but we'll see how that goes.   I don't really mind mowing, as long as I don't have to do it with a walk behind mower - though the walk behind is awesome exercise!!

Other than getting the new mower, I spent quite a bit of time cleaning out some more "stuff" and we took a load of books, etc to Hospice the other day.   I still have some closets to go through, so that will mean more stuff to pack up and get rid of.  I've also been doing quite a bit of calligraphy practicing, making some postcards (for a postcard exchange) and made a greeting card to send off to a friend.  The greeting card took the better part of 3 days since I did some painting and had to keep waiting for paint to dry.  A couple of times I moved too quickly and smudged - try to fix smudged paint!!   It was a challenge.  I need to get started on a couple more birthday cards, as well as design some Christmas cards - yeah, I know - kind of early to be thinking about Christmas, but it's really only a short time away.

So - you'd think with staying that busy, I should have lost a considerable amount of weight.  Think again!  I'm not really sure exactly where I am, weight-wise as I've been bouncing by about 5-6 lbs/day and I know I'm not eating, or eliminating, enough food to do that.   My hands and feet are swollen and painful, but my face looks, and feels, less "chunky".   I can't wait for cooler weather so I can get out and go for my evening walks again.  In the meantime, I have been trying to spend time on the treadmill, along with doing some other small exercises in an effort to strengthen my muscles and hopefully, help get the joint swelling/pain down a little bit.

Anyway, I haven't weighed today, since my weight is bouncing around so much, but I'm going to say that I'm probably staying, basically, the same.  Summer is always a hard time for me because the heat causes so much fluid retention.  I wish I could find "something" that would actually eliminate the fluid, but that hasn't happened yet in spite of various medications I've been prescribed.

So - that's my saga.  I'll weigh later and report back.  How are you doing?  I know various parts of the country are struggling with heat, fires. or flooding... I hope that's not affecting you and that you've been able to meet your goals.   I look forward to hearing about your week.

~~Wishing everyone a wonderful, successful week~~

I'm in the same weight bracket as last week, give or take two tenths of a pound. I haven't been quite as frantic with activity and have been eating a little more, but wisely, so I haven't dropped weight but haven't gained either. As I've said for the last three weeks, I don't mind being the same, just don't it want to be on the uptick, and it doesn't look like that so far. Husband has been buying and cooking salmon and steelhead for dinner, so the meals we've had, have been quite healthy this past week.

It's been hot (for Oregon), with highs of 100 or more every day. It isn't so rare to hit 100 once in a while in the summer, but it's uncommon to go for such a long stretch of days. I think we might lose some plants, it's just not possible to water everything. Wish it would rain, but it's the wrong season.

My son got a kitten at the Humane Society last Thursday, and the little guy has kept us hopping with needing two meds twice a day and one three times a day (eye drops, which he hates). But he's darling and sweet, and is helping mend the hole in my son's heart occasioned by the loss of his favorite cat in May. (We still don't know if she is dead or alive, but barring the unusual such as her being turned in and someone scanning her for a microchip and calling us, we feel we won't ever see her again.) The new little guy is about 11 weeks old. His litter went straight into the ICU when surrendered to the Humane Society, I'm glad they weren't just put to sleep. He's sweet, used to being handled, and purrs a lot. Our big cats are staying at the farm for the duration of the time the vet thinks the little one might be infectious. He met our smallest dog today (dog = no larger than a cat) and they both jumped. His color is flamepoint Siamese (though he's not purebred of course). I'll post a photo as soon as we have a name for him.

The family is going out in the heat to walk around our favorite lakeside town. That will probably last about 15 minutes, then we'll get some dinner.

Have a great week, crossing fingers that we don't have another string of many 100-degree days here.
