Thinking of you, Barb. Tuck in, stay safe.
I was thinking of you when I saw Ian's estimated track on the news. At the time they were suggesting landfall might be on the west coast, it's obviously changed if the panhandle is now what they are projecting. If I remember correctly, last time the panhandle took a hit, it was pretty devastating for a lot of houses at least.
I'm up a half pound, and since last week I was also up from where I like to be, this is the wrong direction. We've been eating a lot of fried fish and chips, that being the nearest fast-food place to us, and me being swamped taking care of details on my mother's house. Guess it's time to go do her garden again, all the raking and mowing keeps my weight in check.
Mom's house went up for sale on the 16th, had an open house on the 17th, and an offer in hand on the 18th (and it was a good offer) with another person right behind them also strongly interested. On the 19th, my folks accepted the offer, and everything was a "go" to close October 7. I was pleased and glad that all my hard work had paid off.
But then, the inspection found that the sewer (the part in their yard) needs a lot of repair. The pipe is broken, and 12 feet down (deep for a sewer pipe and lots more expensive to deal with) and it's going to take in the tens of thousands of dollars to dig it up and replace it. And the main might be involved, which would mean the City needs to get involved, plus the neighbor behind because the sewer easement is between the two houses. The real-estate agent is going to tell my stepdad and mom about it on Tuesday once we get more information about what the buyer wants to do. If they back out, and if the other person who was interested also backs out, the fix is on us. I'd prefer someone just proposing to pay less for the house and taking on the work themselves, but people don't usually have extra thousands of dollars when buying a house. (After all, if we fix it and then continue to ask full price, they can get a mortgage to cover the total and don't have to come up with the cash out of pocket to pay the sewer guys.) So, it looks like I'm not off the hook for taking care of Mom's house, alas. Right when I was starting to hope I could get the boxes out of the front room at our own house!
Weather here has been lovely, though no rain. We have stopped having 100-degree days, in the 80s is the hottest afternoon we have had lately. We let a lot of our plants brown out in the yard at the house we recently moved to, the yard was overgrown and we decided to let nature tell us which to give up on, since this won't be the only hot summer we have from now on out. I do need to get our gutters cleaned before the rains start; last year one of them overflowed regularly.
Obviously, house stuff is on my mind! Have a great week!
