Metamucil Weight Gain

Has anybody experienced weight gain while trying to lose weight by using Metamucil?

I've experienced weight gain and a bloated stomach while taking metamucil for approximately two and a half months to three months. I have a question is how to you get rid of the weight gain and bloated stomach? I have been off metamucil now for about three to four weeks. I'm eating a healthier diet with much more fruits and veggies. I am fairly active in that I walk everywhere I go in the city that I live in. I still maintain the bloated stomach. I'm drinking water (about 8 to 10 cups a day). Does anyone know how long the bloated stomach will last once you are off the metamucil? And how can you get rid of the abdominal bloating?

Because Metamucil is fiber, it can cause bloating if one isn't used to that much fiber.   Depending on how much water (and other liquids) you're taking in, you may need to add more.   That said, Metamucil should not stay in your digestive system for 3-4 weeks.   Exercise may help with the bloating, but you may need to see your doctor.

Thanks Barb135. I think you are right. I wasn't use to too much fiber and I wasn't taking much water with it. I leaned on other web sites that fluid intake was important in diluting the effects of metamucil in your body. Right now I drinking between 8 to 10 cups of water a day. Water intake I was told is important in maintaining regularity. I've stopped taking metamucil now and I am turning towards natural food intake to maintain regularity. I think I have lost some of the weight that I gained with metamucil. I read one comment from a person who indicated that it took him/her three months to lose the weight that they had gained with metamucil. A few people indicated that they had gain huge bellies because of metamucil. The problem that I think I encountered was that the Doctor who told me to take metamucil never warned me about the potential side effects of the product. There wasn't enough information given to me about the side effects by the Health Professional.

metamucil is a fibre supplement. If taken as directed it should cause weight gain.  Ive never even heard of that and use metamucil daily.

I have never heard of trying to lose weight by using Metamucil.
