Sunday Weigh In September 5, 2021

Good morning.  I can't believe another week has gone by, but here we are again.  It's looking like a really nice (though very warm) day here.  I was outside yesterday evening and even as warm as it's been lately, I can sense a feeling of "fall" in the air.  Trees are beginning to drop leaves already and the grass isn't growing as fast.  I realized the other day that we aren't that far from a new year!!

It's been really quiet here over the past week.  I had my dermatology appointment on Wed and the doctor zapped off  little "pre-cancer" lesion from my arm.  It's still a bit itchy, but better to have it gone than turn into a full-fledged skin cancer.

You probably don't remember, but my last thyroid ultrasound showed a "moderately suspicious" nodule and it's time to get another ultrasound to see what the status of that nodule is.

I'm beginning to work on a couple of new calligraphy projects, which is fun and keeps me from doing as much sitting since it also involves woodworking and I need to spend time in the shop in order to work on the project.  It also means a lot of trips back and forth between the shop and the house, since my calligraphy supplies are inside.  Anyway, I'm gong to start working on that today - might even finish today - who knows?

I'm back to the weight I was a couple of weeks ago.  I'm not sure what caused that several pound gain, but I can only assume it was fluid buildup since it's gone and I haven't changed anything else.  With cooler weather, I'll be able to begin my evening walks again and hopefully, my winter walking partner will be back soon so we'll be able to resume our morning walks.  I'm hoping that will keep me going and help drop off some more pounds.

All of that said - as of yesterday (haven't weighed this morning), I'm down 3 lbs from last week, so I'll take it and hope for more this week.

So - that's my story... what's yours?  I hope you had a great week and were able to meet/exceed whatever goal(s) you had set for yourself.  I look forward to hearing about them.

~~Wishing everyone a wonderful, successful week~~

Wow, three pounds, that's a lot! I've been counting my successes in the "point ones" of a pound. By now my digital scale would be awfully surprised if I presented it with a one-point-something loss instead of a point-one something loss.

That said, I'm losing about .2 to .4 of a pound per week this last few weeks. Weighed this morning and noticed my stomach not sticking out so much. That was nice! I think my dinner yesterday was pretty light.

On a totally related subject, I have been able to stay off the Dr. Pepper another week. I've had some natural-foods lemonade when craving a sweet drink, but it's not made with high-fructose corn syrup like Dr. P is, and I don't like it as much as the D.P. so I don't drink it as often. I even mixed up some of my own lemonade at home with stevia and unsweetened lemon juice (like Realemon, but a store brand). It was not much of a success; it tasted artificial. Don't know if the problem was the stevia or the lemon juice, but I kind of suspect the stevia. At least it didn't take as much to sweeten all that tart lemon, that's stevia's claim to fame.

High school begins in two days and I've got a somewhat concerned freshman, worried he won't be able to keep up. All I can do is reassure him that there are ways to approach the work that make it more of a routine, and the school will help, and is aware that kids feel that way. Not much more to say until we know how he's really going to do.

Hope everyone has a great week!

I think we know my 3 lbs down isn't a fat loss - there had to be a lot fluid involved, as well.  If I seriously lost 3 lbs of fat in one week, I'd probably be concerned and cut back my thyroid med or something!!

Your 0.2-0.4 lbs is okay - it's always safer to lose it slower.   Something like noticing the stomach not as prominent is good.  By contrast, even though my scale said I was down 3 lbs, my body didn't look any different nor did my clothes fit differently.  Take your tenths of a pound and enjoy.  :-)

Congratulations on staying away from the "good doctor" for another week.  It's possible that the odd taste of your homemade lemonade was a combo of the stevia and bottled juice.  To begin with, Stevia can have a "different" taste... it kind of has to grow on you.   In addition, bottled lemon juice tastes (to me) like what it is - bottled lemon juice.  When I get a taste for lemonade, I use fresh lemons.  It's a bit messy and time-consuming, but worth the effort for me.   I also, often drink hot lemonade sweetened with honey - yes, honey has calories, but it doesn't take much and I've actually lost weight on it, in the past.  That said - hot lemonade is best in winter, when I need a warm pick-me-up.

Starting a new school year can be daunting, even in elementary school, so it's understandable that your son is concerned about starting high school.  That's a whole new world from what he's used to.  He sounds like a pretty conscientious student, so it probably won't take him long to get in the groove.
Good luck to him.
