Sunday Weigh in - February 20, 2022

Good morning.  I hope everyone is doing well this morning.  I read that some parts of the country were going to be getting some more frigid weather today.   It was a bit colder here, overnight, than it has been but I think it will be warm later on as the sun is out brightly and the temp has come up about 10° since I got up.

There's not much going on here again this week.  I haven't really accomplished much of anything and my weight is all over the scale - up a couple pounds, down a couple.  It depends so much on what I eat - whether or not it's salty, etc.  I can't believe how much fluid I gain (or lose) over the course, of a day.  Now that it's been a little bit warmer, it seems like I'm retaining even more.  I've always had an issue with fluid during warm weather, but last year after I began taking the beta blocker, that sort of went away.  I got used to my nice, thin ankles again - now they're not looking so good.  I wonder if the swelling means I'll need an adjustment in my blood pressure medication.  I'll see my doctor in April, so will dive into that issue then.

Other than that, it's quiet here and the days sort of tend to run together.  Husband is somewhat between projects, so we have been going out to rummage around thrift stores and other places.  We both enjoy doing that - of course, he's happier if there are tools wherever we go, but that doesn't happen real often.   We rarely buy anything, but it's still fun to look.

Anyway, I hope everyone reached their goal(s) last week and is ready to start a new week.  A new week is always a chance to start over for me.

~~Wishing everyone a wonderful, successful week~~

does your weight fluctuates on the same day. just asking

i only weigh in on Sundays in order not to get obsessive about small changes, but it stands to reason that weight would vary all the time. For example, if someone eats a big meal and then weighs themself, the amount showing on the scale would have increased by the weight of the meal.
I don't, typically weigh more than once/day, but Annie's right - weight fluctuates, depending on what/how much you eat/drink, exercise, eliminate (use the bathroom), whether you retain fluid or not.

My weight can fluctuate by up to 5-6 pounds over the course of a day because I do retain a lot of fluid.  I find that staying hydrated helps eliminate some of the retention.

All of that said, like Annie, I don't obsess over daily changes because they're  normal.  I do, typically, weigh most days because it helps me spot possible upcoming trouble - for instance if my weight simply keeps going up vs fluctuating, I know something isn't right and I need to figure it out.

I weighed in this morning at .2 of a pound higher than last week, which itself had been a many-week low. I think this is all the activity on the new house, because though I missed a meal or two I haven't really been watching my intake. (Except, I did make it a point not to eat a salty meal last night. Excess salt does bump up my water retention.)

Still painting in the new house this week, and sticking close to our son, who is working his way through the transition to his new school. There is simply a lot more homework, which at his middle school and last high school, he has managed himself. But it became clear he needed a hand with charting it and scheduling it, because there's just so much. His grades on the papers he has handed in so far have been good -- the work isn't beyond his understanding -- but the sheer quantity really did snow him under. The teachers so far are accepting late work, but I don't know how tolerant they will be in the long run if everything is late! So one day when I was supposed to be painting, I was home with him all day, supervising and supporting him in sticking with his homework. He had been at the school only 8 days at that point and had been doing 2-3 hours of homework a night, and he still had 14 more hours of homework to do just to catch up. I told him he simply had to get real about this and not do anything else after school until he gets used to the pace.

One of my sisters who is rarely here came to town this week to see our mom. So all of my sisters (five of us) had a get-together yesterday. Just the five of us haven't all been together in one room without more family in the mix, in ages. It felt pretty nice! (Even though what we were talking about was my mother's care. Mom is doing OK and lives in her own house with a husband younger than she is, but she hasn't given a durable power of attorney to any of her kids, and hasn't signed a medical power of attorney either. Her husband isn't *that* much younger and isn't in great health, so it's pretty stupid not to have some backup on this against the day when *he* might have an emergency. He does a lot to take care of her, but I don't think she would be able to do much to take care of him.) Anyway, this past few days, big sis also came and saw our new house (presently with ripped-up carpets and kitchen, hanging wires and half-painted surfaces, and of course eau de cat). She was dutifully complimentary. lol I get along a lot better with her now that we're adults than we ever did when we were kids.

My week upcoming will include painting, and dealing with the builder, and lighting a candle under the fence guy, and buying a bathtub (! lol), and then beginning to think about doing taxes. Ugh! What a week!

Hope yours is great!

It sounds like you're certainly staying busy and active.  It does help to curtail the salt intake - for me, as well.   I can tell just by how my fingers feel whether it's a good time to weigh or not!!

I'm glad you're able to help support your son with his homework, getting it scheduled, etc.  Sometimes, it can be overwhelming.  I hope he adjusts soon and gets a routine so he won't be behind, as he seems like a good student - just needs to pick up the pace a bit.

Even if the visit with your 5 sisters was "mom business", I'm sure it was nice to have all of your together for a change.  I get along with one of my sisters better now that we're grown than we did as kids, also. :-)

It seems like a week has already gone by for me, since I posted this thread.  Monday was our monthly calligraphy meeting and yesterday was my eyelid surgery day.  What an experience.  I currently, have a very tight bandage around my head, at eyebrow level  that's giving me the headache from h***.  Fortunately, I get it off this afternoon when I visit my doctor to make sure everything is doing what it's supposed to.

Yesterday, my weight was down by almost a pound - probably because I wasn't allowed anything to eat/drink prior to surgery, so was somewhat dehydrated.  It would be nice to keep the weight down, but doubt that's going to happen right away.

Enjoy your week.
Good luck at the doctor's! I wonder why they didn't give you something to take if you got a headache ... they must have heard by now from patients that tight bandages around the head do hurt like the devil.
I just returned from the doctor’s office.  They removed the bandage and my head is free again.

They do know that patients get headaches from the bandages and had told me about it.  They  did give me pain med and even nausea medication because they said some people get sick from the headache.  If I get them badly enough, I often do get nauseated, but didn’t this time.   Although the pain med helped what little pain I had from the stitches, it didn’t touch that headache.  Now that the bandage (and resulting pressure) is gone, the headache has eased considerably and I expect it to be gone by morning.
So, do you love your glamorous eyelift? All the Hollywood ladies are doubtless jealous.
LOL... I might love it, if I'd done it for glamor... Since I can already see better (peripheral vision), I'd say it's a success, even though there's a lot of healing to be done as I currently look like someone slashed me multiple times and/or tried to gouge my eyes out.  :-)   I'm finding it hard to understand why people would go through this for the sake of vanity - it's pretty painful and wouldn't be worth it just for looks - to me, anyway.

I notice that with my blurry vision of the past couple of days, I commented on an old thread... sorry about that.
