Sunday Weigh in - January 30, 2022

Good morning.  It's a cold, but bright day here this morning - it was 24° when I got up, which is too cold for Florida.  Now that the sun is up the temperature has risen quickly, so it might be a decent day after all.

I hope everyone is doing well. I know some parts of the country are in the middle of a devastating snow storm, many without power.  Please be safe.

We spent the past week on a short vacation to Las Vegas... We had a really good time, even though is it was colder than we'd like it to be.  Las Vegas still has a mask mandate in effect, so wherever we went, indoors, we had to mask up.  It didn't take long to figure out that the mask was also good at protecting the face from the biting wind, when outdoors, as well.

Anyway, we arrived back home early Friday morning and as you can imagine, my weight didn't fare too well after 4 days in Vegas, in spite of the fact that we walked up to 15,000 steps (for me, according to my Fitbit), which is right at 6 miles, each day.  We didn't eat all that "much" food, but since we were eating out, all of it was loaded with salt and of course, most was none too healthy, except the grilled salmon w/veggies, I had one day.  Other than our meals consisted of breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage and biscuit, lunch was a burger or pizza and dinner was either pizza or snacking in our room... Not good.

Needless to say, I'm not real happy with the scale since we got home and have to get back to business and start losing again.  I know, at least, part of the weight I put on - about 4 lbs - is fluid, but not all of it.

I hadn't mentioned it, but I fell in the bathroom a couple of weeks ago and messed up my hand.  I have to get into an exercise routine in order to rebuild my balance before I hurt myself "really" bad.  I'll be working on that this week.

In addition, tomorrow I have an appointment to see an ocular plastic surgeon for consultation about my drooping/sagging eyelids.  It's been determined that they're blocking my peripheral vision and I'm hoping it won't take a long time to get in for the surgery.

On that note - I seem to have my work cut out for the next while.  I hope you've managed to meed/exceed whatever goal(s) you've set for yourself.

~~Wishing everyone a wonderful, successful week~~

**Stay safe and wash your hands**

Yes, 24° was very cold.  We had to run water in outside faucets to keep them from freezing because water lines aren't real deep in the ground, here - and of course, we have exposed pipes wherever there are outside spigots.   It did warm up this week, almost too much for this time of year.

It's unfortunate that your weight doesn't seem to be dropping, but you don't have far to go and they always say the last few pounds are the hardest to get rid of.  That said, have you considered some type of exercise to help with your stomach?  Although we can't spot reduce, exercise can tighten the muscles and make us look/feel thinner.  When I was doing yoga on a regular basis, my muscles got a lot stronger and my body seemed longer/leaner.   Just a thought.

It's a good idea. The strength-training place I mentioned might be a place to start, or just videos of yoga moves.
I guess I mean videos of yoga instruction! lol
Yes, strength training is good and actually yoga is a form of strength training, because it uses the body vs machines.  There are certain poses that strengthen the core - which includes the stomach.   Look up "down dog", "plank" and a couple others.  But don't forget that as we get older (no you're not old, but I am...lol), our balance tends to weaken as well, so any yoga poses are good.  I wish I'd stayed with it - I might not be falling in the bathroom now since yoga is good for bones, as well as muscles.

There are tons of yoga videos on YouTube - you can look around and something that works for you.
I think I will start with yoga videos tomorrow. No time like the present!

Oh, shoot, I didn't remember it was Sunday and have eaten a big meal. I'll weigh in tomorrow morning.

That said, I suspect not much change weight-wise this week. My weight seems lately to be plateaued at about 5 lbs. lower than when we began these challenges, but 5-10 lbs. higher than I'd really like, mostly because I would like to reduce my waistline. Unfortunately, from the way my arms look, I think my weight is redistributing a bit ... if you have less fat in the arms and maybe the calves, the scale can look the same and you can still have a fatter stomach than you want. I don't want bony arms. There is a strength-training studio near here that I've looked at consideringly a few times with my arms in mind, but I've been too nervous to go in -- more than one friend has gotten Covid at their gym. The pandemic could sure end and I would not complain!

That seems awfully cold for Florida, Barb. We just went through a series of clear days and bitey cold nights, but the lows at night were 30, not like you're getting. Vegas sounds fun. I hope everyone where you ate and stayed took masking seriously -- Nevada's positivity rate is 35%.

Will report in tomorrow.

Up .6 of a pound from last week. That's probably standard variation (if I weigh in later in the week it might be gone) but I'll keep an eye on it.  :-)
