Sunday Weigh in January 8, 2023

Good afternoon... Well, finally got online to post.  It's been a busy day.  We had to leave this morning to do some things and have out all day.  Anyway, I guess better late than never.

So how is everyone doing this week?  I'm still plodding along in my boot, trying to make the best of it.  I just realized a little bit ago that it's beginning to smell kind of bad so I gave it a quick wash.  Of course, that means I can't wear it until it dries, and I have no idea how long that will take!!  I hope it's dry by bedtime, at least.  If it isn't, I might wrap an ace bandage around my foot/leg to keep it "in position" while I sleep.

I did actually weigh this morning but I'd had a couple cups of coffee - anyway, I'm up by a pound from last week, when I expected to be down another pound.  Oh well, I'm still down overall from my highest weight by about 6 pounds.  I'm okay with that, for right now, considering the boot and everything that's slowing me down and preventing me walking and doing other exercise in which I might engage if I didn't have to wear it.

I see the foot doctor on Thursday of this coming week and although the chance is slim (to none), I'm hoping I might get out of the boot or, at least be able to reduce the time I have to wear it every day.   I'd really love to be able to sleep without it.  I have to wrap it in a pillowcase to avoid getting the bed dirty and supposedly to help the boot "slide" better between the sheets, but it doesn't make sleep easy (or comfortable) by any means.   Because of my neuropathy, I don't like to wear anything on my feet in bed, including socks - you can imagine what the boot feels like!!   Anyway, the boot (and having to wear a shoe on the other foot in order to walk evenly), really has my neuropathy in overdrive.

So that's my week - how exciting to spend one's days fighting with a big plastic boot!!   How are you doing?  I hope it's been a good week and you've been able to meet your goal(s).  I look forward to hearing about them.

~~Wishing everyone a wonderful, successful week~~

Hi, luckily the holidays have left me with no added weight, despite feeding family and friends a lot and making many cookies. I'm about .4 of a pound down from last week. Basically this has been inside the same pound but just up and down it, since well before Christmas. Could stand to lose and keep off five more pounds, but what it is, is OK.

This week my sisters and I met by Zoom to discuss the assisted-care place where my mom and stepdad are living. They only moved in to the place last July, but it looks like we're going to have to move them again. The place is having a lot of trouble getting and keeping staff (apparently a problem for all assisted-care places of late), meaning Mom goes three weeks without a shower and other promised services are non-existent. They've given notice that they intend to raise their rates by 14%. In the freeze on the 23rd, part of the building's pipes froze, and when they thawed they leaked, causing the ceiling to fall in on one of the wings and part of the kitchen. They're going to try to assemble a temporary kitchen in the (already too small) parking lot, but even before this, their meals had been coming an hour late. My stepdad is so distressed by anything new that we can't discuss them moving out, we're going to just have to spring it on him when the time comes. It's a mess. The only good part is that they can afford to move -- some of the other residents are kind of trapped. (I don't know how anyone does it on just public assistance; it wouldn't come near to covering the costs of this place.)

Luckily my sisters were all pretty practical about the situation and even somewhat upbeat (because we'll be getting them out of there). My job tomorrow is to talk a different place we liked back when Mom and stepdad chose the one they're living in now. The person who toured us around there was really smart and quite nice, and the facility seems well-heeled enough to cover the services they promise, and to handle emergencies.

So, finding new housing for my mom is what I'm doing this week, and paying bills. Kind of boring! I guess not every week can be a holiday.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Congratulations on staying within your 1 pound "range".  I know what you mean about wanting to lose more, but that doesn't always happen.  I've learned not to get too excited with an increase because for me, it's mostly fluid... on the other hand, if the increase starts and won't stop, as it did 3 yrs ago when I gained 20+ lbs in a matter of  months - that's concerning and what I'm still dealing with but having a hard time budging.   Luckily, over the past few months, I've been able to lose about 6 pounds total and now seem to be losing/gaining regularly within a 3 pound range... it's the same weight - just comes/goes on different days!!

I'm sorry to hear about your mom and stepdad having to move again.  I think a lot of places are having a hard time maintaining adequate staff.   It's not easy keeping up with someone in assisted living and making sure they get the care they need.   Showers at 3 week intervals wouldn't be acceptable and with a caved roof, it sounds as though they have no kitchen facilities right now...  I'm glad you have another ALF (assisted living facility) that you can turn to.   Hopefully, it will be suitable and will have room available.  I was fortunate that the facility I found for my Auntie was good, reasonably priced, and able to care for her right to the end.

It is difficult when one has to depend on public assistance for their care.  I've heard that those people, often, don't get the same level of care as those who are self-paying.   From what I understand, each facility has to reserve a certain amount of space for those on Medicaid (public assistance), but I'm not sure if that's the case all over.

Good luck your endeavors, this week.  I need to pay some bills, as well - ugh!!
Enjoy your week.

Hello, this is my first time posting in this community, and I find this thread really interesting, so I'd like to share my weight loss experience, so last week I was looking for some information on how I can lose wait naturally when I came across an article about intermittent fasting on a website called The Health Journal. I did a lot of research on it before deciding to do it. So yeah, one week in and it's a really nice way to lose weight and it doesn't feel hard on your heart since you can eat whatever you want but just for a certain amount of time. So I'm hoping to see results soon.

Good luck with it! There is a lot of intuitive logic to the idea that you don't eat for (what is it, 12 hours a day?) to let your body settle down and make use of the food it has, and metabolize, and so forth. I don't know anyone personally who has used this method for a long time, but at least it's not damaging, the way a lot of diets are. And since much of that time is spent in sleep, it does seem like it wouldn't be hard.
I do my own version of Intermittent Fasting... I eat my last meal of the day before 8:00 pm and don't eat again until around 11:00 or shortly after.  Unfortunately, it hasn't been helpful to me.  Sometimes, I get too hungry between meals and have to have something to keep my blood sugar from crashing (I have reactive hypoglycemia).  I do try to opt for low calorie fruits/veggies (apples, carrots, celery, etc) but they don't always bring up the glucose level enough.

Most with blood glucose issues must be sure to eat smaller meals at regular intervals.
