Welcome.
It's best to make lifestyle changes that you will be able to live with for the rest of your life. Too often, when taking weight loss pills or supplements or going on a "diet", the weight is gained back as soon as the weight loss program is stopped; not to mention that some weight loss methods have some rather "unpleasant" side effects. If you actually make changes that are healthy and that you can live with, you don't have to worry about what happens when you stop because you will have made a life time commitment and won't stop.
TK423 has some great ideas. Start out by making small changes - drink water instead of soda, snack on fruits and veggies instead of chips or candy, etc.
Make sure you get enough servings of all the various food groups and watch your portion sizes. If you have a can of something that has 3 servings, make sure you only eat 1 serving or if you are going to eat the whole can - count it as 3 servings and eliminate something else for that day.
Try to stay away from refined sugar, flour, rice and stay more with whole grain breads, cereals and pastas, brown rice, etc. Try eating several small meals each day as that will help keep your blood sugar steady and should help cut cravings.
You don't say what your exercise level is, but some moderate exercise daily is necessary - you have to use up the calories you take in or you will gain weight. Just a brisk 30 minute walk every day can make a big difference for most people.
All that said, I would also need to say that you might want to check with your doctor to make sure you don't have underlying medical problems that could cause weight gain/inability to lose; such as hypothyroidism, insulin resistance, etc.
I hope you will keep posting and let us know how you do.
Hi Sanbri,
At the age of 51, being overweight can cause many additional problems to your health. It's good that you are planning to lose some weight to remain healthy. My dad who is 56 year old has faced the same problem. Due to his busy schedule at office his routine of having meal was not proper and result of that he gain weight. Over weight caused him many health related issues and his job was affected. I searched on internet for the best possible and fast solution to control the weight and to burn extra fat of body. I found that Alli slimming pill is really popular in the market to lose weight. It is a FDA approved medicine which do not require any prescription from doctor to purchase. Alli directly works on your body fat and burns it. It only allows your body to consume one fourth part of fat which you take with your meal and remaining fat is removed through natural way from the body. We only require to do some workout and follow a balanced diet to support our self. So finally i decided to order Alli for my dad. My dad has now started to give some time to workout and started to follow a balanced diet. Alli is really great to support weight lose program.
I started by simply counting calories and portion controll gradually adding in a 30 min treadmill. I have lost 28 pounds since Jan 28, 2009. My advice------start small!!!!! Replace white bread with whole wheat. Read the labels on everything. Choose lowest calorie and lowest fat and carbohydrate you can find. Turkey bacon is great!!!! Turkey hamburger is a great change to make manwiches, ect.
Good luck!!!!!!!
