rock & a hard place

Hi I am a 46 yr old female 5'10 close to 350 pounds. I am SUFFERING BAD with pain in my left hip in 3 different areas. 1 in the butt area 1 on the side where the bones meet an 1 where the bottom of the pelvic bone is all on the left. I know it is osteo & sciatic nerve. I have almost lost my ability to walk completley due to the pain not to mention I have osteo in both knees. I have no insurance or income & dont qualify for obamacare or medicade nothing. Is there anything you can tell me about that would take this pain away? It is real bad and I refuse to take pain pills all day long. I BADLY want the gastric bypass to help me lose this weight which would help greatly with the hip pain. Is there any kind of chairty bariatric surgen? Dr robert marema in St augustine is great but he dosent do pro bono. It would do me no good to have a hip replacemnt with this weight still a factor. But being poor uninsured ***** lol. I dont know what is going to happen because i can see it coming and fast. me being 100% unable to walk. Then what? My husband is 10 years older and on disability with his back. I am already a burden anough on him. I dont qualify ever for any ssi ssdi nothing because i was a stay home mom never paid in. what happens to me when he cant help me? do i just become homeless on the street away from my home and husband? how does that work if he cant care for me? im really scared. Dr. marema only charges like $25,000 but i will never see that kind of money. Im also careing for my 72 yr old father who is in beginning dementia...im an only chil and have NO friends NOT 1. A very sad lonley painful soul literly lol. But if there is anything you can help me with please share because the pain is getting too much both physically and mentally. A person can only take so much. Thank you

I'm sorry you take my words to Dixximoon as trying to destroy her chances of winning.  I merely pointed out that not every diet works well for every person.

I'm agreeing with your basic diet, I'm simply saying that whole grains can be part of a healthy diet. I'm not here to argue with you, but not everyone has to them give up, as long as they aren't intolerant or allergic. Neither do I conform to the USDA pyramid or follow big Pharm, both of which I think are bad for the American public.  While whole grains don't have to completely given up, they certainly should not dominate the diet, by any means.  Moderation is the key to just about everything.

Dixximoon is not old enough to have anything to do with the Medicare system, so that doesn't even come into play here.  I tried to explain how she might get some help; I hope she will follow up on my suggestions.

So the evidence shows that obesity rates and diabetes keeps rising with the proposed food pyramid provided by USDA and with grains dominating the calories.  This has had severe negative impact on Americans and positive effect on the revenues of big Agriculture and big Pharma.  Folks like Dixximoon suffer.  shame on the USDA!

To add salt to the wound, a confusing and convoluted Medicare system that is hard to navigate further marginalized folks like Dixximoon.  My heart goes out to her.

It's time for change and truth and respect.  Peer reviewed medical studies have shown that high consumption of grains and low fat diet fiasco has destroyed American health. The few who can tolerate grains, and I mean FEW, act like their condition works for everyone, and refuse to acknowledge studies.

Time for people like Dixximoon get things working on their side for once.  For this to happen, the truth has to be acknowledged.  Why destroy her chances of winning?  And why does Medicare system need to be festooned with complicated inscription procedures?  What a load of crap.

Dixximoon....here is your chance.  Look at what worked in your life.  Was it the old typical recommendations as I mentioned in my previous post, or is it the new emerging truth backed by hard science and without big Pharma or big Ag spewing propaganda.  Here's your chance to make a difference in life.

You can do it!  Go girl!

I think you misunderstand the medicaid/insurance issue.  If you can't afford to get insurance through obamacare, you qualify for Medicare, unless your husband makes enough to disqualify you.  I live in Florida, too, and while FL didn't opt for the expanded Medicaid, like some states, you can get medical care through your County Health Department.  It's income based, so if you have no income, it will most likely be free.

I've known people to get knee and hip replacements through the county health department (some have gotten better treatment than I could afford with insurance); they will help you with diet and other needs as well.

I'm not sure why you think you don't qualify for any assistance at all.  While you may not qualify for SSI or anything through Social Security (even stay at home moms can qualify under their husband's social security), you should qualify through the state.   If you have no income, you should qualify for food assistance as well. All counties in FL have a county health department and most even have branch offices, for your convenience. Again, this is all based on whether or not your husband makes enough to disqualify you, if they go by household income rather than individual income.

The diet outline above is good for some, but not for everyone.  I agree with cutting out sugar and limiting grains, but not totally cutting them out... Whole grains can be an important part of a healthy diet.  While I agree that fat is an important part of a healthy diet, it must also be eaten in moderation.

Sweetheart....my heart goes out to you.  Be strong.  You can do this.  I believe you can!  Seriously.

Can I offer you some advice that helped me?  It is to adopt a way of eating that will help you lose weight, and it's not the complicated typical blah blah blah we commonly hear, like eat low fat, exercise crazy hard, run a mile a day, limit portion sizes, count calories....blah blah blah.  Let me guess, you tried this and it didn't work.  You are not alone.  This formula doesn't work for many people, and yet they are blamed for failing at it.

Here is a simple and elegant solution.  Try it for a week or two, and you will see the pounds come if and it will give you hope, like a shining light at the end of the tunnel.  It will help you get through all the other crap you are going through in life.  You can do it!  Yes!

Try adopting a healthy way of eating called LCHF.  This is a low carb, moderate protein and rest of calories from fat (from natural sources, like olive oil and butter, and not fake sources like margarine).  You must first eliminate all sugary and starchy stuff, like grains, bread, rice, potatoes, beans, corn.  And instead, at each meal eat non starchy veg with fat (like butter) and protein (meat/fish/eggs).  A typical meal is broccoli sautéed in butter with ground beef patty.  Another example is eggs fried in butter and side of veg sautéed in butter.  You don't need a lot of money to eat this way, and you will feel satisfied (no need to count calories, eat the portion you want, if you just stick to this plan).  Eat full fat dairy, and don't eat any low fat or no fat dairy...that stuff is full of sugar.  Stay away from low fat yogurt, as that stuff is so full of carbs, it's like candy in your body.  Eat whole food as much as possible, and not the processed stuff.

Make sure you get fat in your diet...a lot of people who go low carb the first time go low fat at the same time too (because their brain has been programmed by previous low fat jargon).  This is not good, as the body will be forced to convert some of the protein to glucose (sugar) via a process called gluconeogenesis.  This defeats the low carb diet and cancels your progress.

Ok, honey?  I hope you got that.  Eat low carb, moderate protein and don't be afraid of fats.  In each meal, eat non starchy veg with protein and fats (olive oil, butter, etc).  Stay away from sugary and starchy stuff.  For more meal ideas, you can google "LCHF" and you will find a lot of stuff by doctors, medical practitioners, etc, with astounding results and more advice.

You can do it!  Go girl!
