scared about labor.

So my boyfriend and I have been trying to conceive for a few months and we are finally pregnant. I am almost 6 weeks and I'm already scared about labor. My boyfriend wants me to give natural birth without taking any drugs but I'm really afraid of the pain I'll be in. But at the same time I don't want my back to hurt for the rest of my life because of the shot in my spine or have nasty c -section scars. This is my first child and I am now 106lbs and 5'4 so I'm afraid that the baby will really break me apart. Any suggestions or advice?

Awww 6 wks. Congrats:)..Try and not worry too much (just yet) about how you are going to deliver..98% of the time we have no control over what happens in that delivery room. We prepare and plan one thing and something completely different happens. Take me for example. My first pregnancy, I was determined to have a "natural birth"..I lasted 6 hrs. I couldn't take the pain anymore..Maybe it was because I was induced so the pain came all at once. In any event, I requested the epidural because I was soooo uncomfortable. Then fast forward to me finally ready to push.  I tried to push for 1 hour and NOTHING. My son was face up and too big. I had no choice but to have a c-sec because his heart rate was dropping from the stress of pushing. It wasn't that bad..My scar is minimal too..When I have a bikini on, you can't tell..With my daughter I was scheduled for a c-sec and I went into labor on my own. By the time I got to the hospital, I was already 10 centimeters dilated. The pain wasn't as bad this time around but I opted for the epidural again just because I personally did not want to feel that pain anymore. I again tried to push but my daughter was also face up and too big so after all that I ended up having another c-sec...Anyway, forgive my rambling..My point was, enjoy your wonderful news. Take it all in and when the time come to make that decision, you will make the decision that is best for you. Good luck and congrats again:)

Hi there.  Oh my goodness.  You are 6 weeks.  Please try not to worry about these things.  Women have been having babies for eons and are just fine after.

Honestly, had to epidurals and I have no idea what you are talking about regarding pain In your back from the shot for the rest of your life.  No.  That doesn't happen.  It barely hurt at the time and paled in comparison to the labor contractions.  Whew, that epidural was a gift from above for me during labor!

Whether you decide to go 'natural' or with medication to make it easier is up to YOU.  I would not allow my husband to dictate this to me as it is not him on the bed having the baby!  Too bad so sad if he doesn't like my choice.  I feel strongly about that.  There are few times in which I think a woman's wishes outweigh working as a couple and giving birth is one of them.  It is hard and a woman needs to do what she is comfortable with.

So, there are pros and cons to natural verses medicated.  As you get closer, you will take some birthing classes and can figure out which is best for you based on REAL information.  good luck
