Blood Clot

I was experiencing stomach pain which then led to me needing to go to the toilet, I had what felt like diarrhea but when i looked it was a normal stool and a large blood clot... approx 8cm diameter.
My pain went after this and i was sure the blood clot had come with the stool but i came on my period too (unexpected, taking pill, lighter than usual) making me think the clot may have come from my vagina.
should i go and see my doctor or does it sound like a pill side effect? I have read up on it but its difficult when I'm not sure where the clot came from.
thanks

Sorry i should probably also add that I don't have heavy periods and have noticed blood in my stools before, and I'm 23.
