Blood after passing bowel motion

I passed a large stool and when I wiped there was fresh blood on the paper and on the outside of the stool. It was painful when I passed it so I was unsurprised to see blood. I’m not sure if it was a haemorrhoid that it disturbed or whether it caused a small tear. It resolved in a few days (I used harmmaroid treatment) and has been fine since. No other blood and motions are as normal. Is this something I should get checked either way? It’s bothering me but I have a history of anxiety and don’t know if it’s more likely over thinking. Im in the U.K. and the NHS website indicates it should be checked out if experienced for 3 weeks or more. But there’s also a lot of news coverage about bowel cancer in the press at the moment and they lean to any blood should be checked. Just looking for some level headed advice please!

Since the blood was fresh, or bright red, that indicates that the origin of the blood is at the very end of the intestinal tract - probably your rectum.  Sometimes straining and/or large bowel movements can cause rectal tears, which usually heal by themselves.  It COULD be a hemorrhoid, but I wouldn't be overly concerned about it unless you continue to see blood, or there's a large volume of blood at one time.
