Brown discharge

I always get my period on the 29th of every month. In February I didn't get it because there is no 29th...so I got my period March 4th it was a little heavy but no big deal. Then in April I got my period on the 19th and it was a "normal" period. I had sex every month and then the following week after I got my period in April. On May 2nd I woke up with a dark brown discharge that smelled like blood. I've been having it on and off since then. One day it was a light pink shade of blood but it has mostly been dark brown. For the past two days it has been a lighter brown and barely any. I had period like cramps the first day but no other pain. I also break out when I get my period and this time I broke out as well. Just to clarify some things...this has never happened to me before. I read it can be common in between periods but has never happened to me. Also, I've been with my now with my fiancé for a almost 4 years so I can rule out any std. Also the odor at first was like blood but now it doesn't smell like anything.

Thank you for your feedback, I will try a home pregnancy test first but I will definitely contact my doctor.

My periods are 3-4 days long. From March to April my period was about 12 days late and then 13 days from last period I started with the discharges.

In my view having a "show" like you did 14 days after the start of your period on 19th April is not normal.

When there is spotting of brown or light pink a week or so after you have finished your period when there was nothing showing,  then something is not right.  It may be that you are anaemic, your hormone levels have got out of balance, there may be a womb or ovary problem, or you may have conceived and something is not right.

Keep a record of what has happened and should your next period be not what is  "normal" for you, make an appointment to see your doctor to get checked out, or consider doing a pregnancy test.

If you opt for a home pregnancy test, do read the instructions carefully so that you get a correct reading.  Read the packet to make sure how many days after conception or missing a period is best to take the test.  Your doctor would be able to order some blood tests to check your hormone levels, to see if you are pregnant (sometimes the doctor can know by examining you internally), and whether you are anaemic.

When someone is anaemic (low on iron levels), periods can become erratic and can sometimes stop.  If your hormone levels are not in balance, the same can happen.

Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes.

Hi there and welcome.  It can always be a bit confusing to figure these things out.  First, I'd take a pregnancy test to rule that out.  Otherwise, you've had an early period.  You don't say how long your period usually is.   It doesn't really go by calendar days but by actual days.  Mine is always 28 days (or usually, I should say).  So, wherever 28 days falls on the calendar is when I get my period.  Every month doesn't have equal days, so the date of your period will fluctuate.  Is your period early and by how many days?
