Brown discharge before period while on birth control?

I am having brown discharge that started four days ago before my period which is scheduled to start tomorrow. On the first day I noticed brown discharge, it was on and off throughout the day and it was only when I wiped. The second day was bright red, went back to brown, and was only when I wiped but definitely heavier. The third day, I had to wear a tampon and it was dark brown. Today it is dark brown like yesterday and I am wearing a tampon. I am expected to get my period tomorrow because I am on Sprintec birth control pill. I have been taking it for 9 months and I have never missed a pill, and the latest I have been was by an hour and a half six months ago. I take it within five minutes every day and am very good about my pill. I have unprotected sex with my SO, but we are curious if this is implantation bleeding or just a very strange period. My placebo week started yesterday if that helps. Thank you!

Hi there.  Since you've been taking the pill the proper way, you are most likely not pregnant.  I wouldn't worry about that.  The hormones in your pill and your own are resulting in spotting (brown blood is old blood) which is not uncommon.  I'd mention it to your doctor.  Not out of concern but out of inconvenience.  You may need a different pill if this continues.  The pill can fail but it is generally associated with user error.  Otherwise, it is very effective at prevent pregnancy.  Best of luck to you hon
