An Endometrial Biopsy is Not Pleasant

Just an update on the endometrial biopsy that I underwent today. I read a number of posts of
women who have undergone this procedure. The majority of posts state that it is very painful
and now having experienced it first hand, I agree. The ob gyn told me to use 2 misoprotol tablets.
The purpose of the misoprotol is to open the cervix to make the procedure less painful. I followed
her instructions to the letter. I also had an opportunity to talk to a nurse who works with my doctor
who told me to take 2 regular strength advil one hour prior to the procedure, which I also did.
Some women in previous posts I've read, stated that there is cramping during the procedure.
Yes, I would have to agree. The procedure itself took less than 2 minutes. Thank goodness for that
because I found it very painful and most uncomfortable.. I found closing my eyes helped and the ob gyn talked to me thoughout the procedure which helped because it made me focus on her voice not what was happening.
I decided to share this because although each case is individual and each woman's pain tolerance is
individual. perhaps something that I have shared may help another woman who has to have an endometrial
biopsy.

I'm glad the procedure is over too, Ellen.
I have a follow up appointment with the specialist who did the endo biopsy.
She basically told me that if there is "bad news" to share with me, her receptist will call me. The gynocologist said if you don't hear from us, the
next appointment stands. It's Thursday today and I haven't heard a thing.
That's a good thing. It is definitely better to make sure that everything is
okay. You said you have to have a large septum removed. What is that?
The ultrasound revealed the presence of multiple fibroids in my uteruss.
My regular gp told me though that fibroids are beneign and that this is
commom in a lot of women. Apparently a fibroid only has to be removed
if it becomes too big and may interfere with another part of your body's
function. I'm actually menopausal already, I'm older than you and in my
later fifties. I'm really grateful for the fact that there have been a number
of advances in the care of female anatomy. I'm very lucky though. I have
an amazing female doctor and she referred me to a very competent
and knowledgable gyn ob. I hope everything turns out for you too as far
as your reference to the removal of the septum.  Stay well, Ellen.

I've heard the same thing most are benign but better to make sure right??
I'm glad it's over with for you.

December 2011 I had a bunch of uterine polyps removed and a large septum that has to be removed. Strange that over the years nothing was ever spotted but there was certainly a bunch of unwanteds growing there!!

Hello ticked,

I'm thanking you for thanking me. It was bad enough having to undergo
an Endometrial biopsy once. You said you had to have this done 3 times.
You have my sympathies. I found the procedure very painful and yes,
I experienced very bad cramps too.

Thank you for sharing this. I too had to have this done 3 times and it doesn't get easier any time you do it. It is uncomfortable to say the least. I cramped as well but not as much as I thought I would. I also had a Presacral Neurectomy done for Endometriosis so I am wondering if that is why I didn't get a lot of cramping. Just even thinking about it makes me cringe.

Hello Ellen,

Thank you for your kind post. The biopsy was very painful. I'm really glad
my doctor's nurse advised me to take 2 regular strength advils one hour
before the biopsy. I hope the pathology comes back okay too. I had the biopsy to rule out the presence of cancer. It was an extremely painful
procedure, but really I had no choice. I had an ultrasound about three
weeks ago and another procedure which revealed the possible presence
of an endometrial polyp. I have googled endometrial polyp and I have read some information about it. My doctor even told me most endometrial polyps are beneign. The specialist I saw yesterday agreed with my doctor's opinion but said there are always some exceptions. Let's hope my pathology results are okay. Thank you again for responding to my post. It is very much appreciated.
