Chronic yeast infection?

I believe I have a chronic yeast infection... or a chronic SOMETHING. I've been to the doctor three times, though I don't believe she's an actual gyno (not sure...). She says that she doesn't see anything wrong down there, but it is very obvious there is because the pain is intense alot of the time, the itching is unbearable and the smell is atrocious. I have to shower three times a day for it to be mild. Anyways, I have tried Monistat, Canesten and Probiotic. All sort of stalled it, or made it a little better but there is still always a slight smell and discharge, out of the ordinary I mean, and with all of these, the discomfort returned a week or so later. I want something that will get rid of this permanently because it makes things uncomfortable with my boyfriend, during sex, when I urinate, at the gym etc. I don't have the kind of money to keep purchasing astronomical supplies of Monistat. But if my doctor doesn't seem to think anything's wrong down there, how is she going to prescribe me Diflucan or Terazol, or even talk about it. I'm beginning to think of nasty ways to show her there is something wrong, like going into my appointment without showering, but I don't want to knock her out, haha. Do you think I have a chronic yeast infection, should I purchase the drugs without my doc's blessing or just search for a second opinion? It's been nearly two years that I've been struggling with this, I just need some relief.

It's not as bad as it sounds, it happens to many women, sometimes more than once. If you have this then your boyfriend or husband must get treated too so that you dont pass it back and forth to each other.

hmmm most helpful. I think I am going to book something with another doctor. I like my doctor but, something's gotta be done. I'll mention the bacterial infection thing and see what she thinks! Thank you :).

Posiposi is right. It's not suppose to smell, that means it's something else. Most def a bacterial infection. You can find a gyn doctor that has a microscope on site and have them examine a sample. But most gyn doctors wont need to do this just by your symtoms alone. It sounds like either bacterial vaginal disease, Venerial Disease, or Pelvic Infammatory Disease but it's treatable.  But you have to be careful because these things attack your reproductive system.

You may have a bacterial infection! Most yeast infections DON'T smell, and if they do they just smell of beer or bread. I am suffering from a yeast infection right now, and the monistat isn't working, but the only problem i'm having is the itching. I suggest you try to see a different doctor.
