Confusing for sure! If your doctor can't tell you if you are pregnant or not, no that is not normal. What 'may' have happened is that you are super newly pregnant and the test is not really showing it fully yet and you aren't triggering home tests (although you'd be less likely to them have pregnancy symptoms if you don't have enough of the hormones to trigger a test). Or you may have been pregnant briefly and had a chemical pregnancy with a bit of the hormone left over in your system. PMS symptoms are similar to pregnancy symptoms as are symptoms of hormones shifting. Tests really are the rule of thumb to determine the situation.
What was your doctor's follow up? If it was me, I'd want HCG tests done (blood tests) every other day to see if HCG is increasing. If it is pregnant is the answer. If it is not, probably not pregnant and you'd know relatively quickly. So, is your doctor up for your doing this?
