Female priaprism

So, I am studying EMT at the moment and one of the things that we discussed was a priapism, which makes sense. I then got curious about if it could happen to females, and I found a term for it,  clitorism, but haven't really been able to find out how it works, what makes it happen, ect. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it, if they could please explain a little bit more.

This takes place when the nerves to the spinal cord are severed. If you are an EMT, you look for a priapism as an indication of spinal injury. And yes, in females the clitoris becomes engorged with blood, but of course this isn't a part of the EMT on-the-scene-exam.
