Pregnancy

O.K. I'm 12 days late and I've taken 10 o.t.c. test 5 said I am preg. with a faint line and the other 5 said nope. So I went to the doctor who had a yes/no blood test done... It said neg. Then his nurse called me at home and said the doctor said for me not to drink/smoke or take certain meds. for the next two weeks then take another o.t.c. test. What is going on? What do you all think. Someone help I'm more confused then before I had this blood test done. If the B. test siad I'm not preg. now then what is two weeks going to matter? I just don't get it.

There could be a chance that you are pregnant and that the pregnancy hormone levels are just way to low to register correctly now.  With each day of pregnancy, the levels get higher.  If we say that you ARE pregnant, it would depend on when the actual conception happened.  Like maybe you conceived very close to the day you would be expecting your period, so now only being 12-15 days later, the pregnancy hormone would still maybe not show up in tests.  Giving it 2 more weeks to show up is wise....especially when 5 tests were positive.  There are possibilities of having false negative tests, but false positives are not common.  So, the doctor probably knows that you had 5 positive tests, and other than user error, the pregnancy possibility is still high.  I think you should wait at least a week, and do another test....and then another week I guess if it still hasn't registered...just to be safe.  If you are pregnant, you wouldn't want to drink or smoke to hurt the baby, so if it's a distinct possibility that you are, you should abstain to be safe.  Good luck:)

Textbook ovulation occurs on day 14 of your 28 day cycle.  In reality, sometimes it happens a few days before, sometimes it happens a few days after....so you should consider your fertile time during this window of 6-7 days....especially since life has many variables, and hormones affect women differently, and many women have irregular cycles.  The other variable would be the moment of conception when the sperm and the ovum meet....sperm can live up to approx 72 hours, so that brings another window of opportunity into play:)

It could be a chemical pregnancy.  Pregnancy hormones may be present, but low which is why you're getting a faint line on the OTC tests, but not high enough for the doc to say yes.  Since hormone levels double every couple of days in early pregnancy, if you try again in two weeks, and your hormones are high enough to get a positive you may actually be pregnant.  Levels vary from woman to woman and your doc probably thinks it may be better to be safe

Thanks for answering my question this really helps. I really didn't know you could get preg. right before your period. I always thought it was after. Well I learn something new every day. LOL. I do feel pregnant. I do hope I am as well. Thanks...
