Menorrhagia

I am 37 years old and have had continuous menstrual bleeding recently. I had a non stop period for a month. I went to my gynecologist who prescribed progesterone 5mg orally. I took it on the 12th day of my cycle and the bleeding stopped. Then I stopped taking it on the 25th day of my cycle and my period came. Then it wouldn't stop again. I started again to take the progesterone on the 12th day but this time I am still getting spotting and now I'm on the 18th day of my cycle.
Can you help?
