Ovarian Cyst with Clear Discharge and No Period?

Hi everyone,

I'm 51, still getting regular periods. My last period was in August. Since the beginning of September, I've been getting clear discharge, similar to ovulation discharge. I also had some bleeding that wasn't due to my period, so my obgyn did an ultrasound, which found a 4.9 cm cyst on my left ovary. He did another ultrasound two weeks later, and it's down to 2 cm now. But my lining is thick. He had done an endometrial biopsy at the end of May for some other symptoms I was having, but that was normal. He cultured the discharge, as there's so much of it, and it was normal. He thinks the discharge is just my hormones out of whack from the cyst. If I don't get my period by mid November however, he wants to do another biopsy of the endometrial lining. Has anyone ever had clear discharge with a cyst? I'm either having bleeding (much less often), or this clear discharge every day.

So, I had periods on time with my cyst.  Maybe a little irregular but not big gaps. I was trying to conceive so was watching it like a hawk.  When I finally passed it, it was seriously like a whopper of a period.  It was all the stuff when I have a period but to the max.  Then it went right back to normal.  I had about 4 months until I passed it.

Ah, okay. It worries me that I haven't had a period in two months, but I have heard that can happen when you have a cyst. Hoping everything will go back to normal soon. Thanks for your help!
Yes, you can be late when hormones are shook up as a cyst can do. Try not to worry!

Yep, I totally agree with your doctors summation that it is out of whack hormones due to cyst.  Been there as this happened to me.  I would consider this part of the cyst issue.  My cyst passed on its own.  I was like a super bad period when it did, heavy bleeding and very heavy cramping.  But when it was over, it was over. Haven't had another since . . .been over 15 years!

Thanks so much for responding! I've been really worried about this, as I haven't found much online regarding the discharge. He feels the lining thickness is also due to the cyst, and says when my period eventually does come (which I'm hoping it does!), that it will be extremely heavy as well. Do you remember how long it took for your cyst to disappear? Thanks!
