I agree, I think it's good to find different kinds. Your mother probably doesn't want you to wear tampons to sleep because it can increase the risk of toxic shock to wear a tampon for long periods of time-- like when sleeping.
Here's what I got taught though. If you have a heavy flow, try something that's longer in the back. When you lay down, you'll be covered. Always brand seems to be thinner and hold more, but it also has a plastic top coat on the pad that can cause a sticky feeling. Kotex is all paper and some women say it leaves them feeling dryer. (But I'm still partial to always). And if you're sleeping, wings can help a pad stay in place a lot better. Try out some of these brands and see which one you like. I know pads suck, but for sleeping they're a really good choice.
Try different brands! also how do you feel with the pads winged or none winged? Would you use nighttime pads or just everyday pads? Theres so many out theree and remember what works for one person doesnt for the next… if your not happy with the pads your mother gets you then sit down with her and explain that!
