Why did I skip this month?

I've had my period for about 5 years now.  I started at 10.  I went on birth control for a year then we needed to go in to get the prescription renewed so we just decided to wait awhile. (that was a few months ago).  I usually start at the end of the month and carry over to the first few days.  This month I had the symptoms as per usual.  Nipples hurting, pimples, pms and bloating.  I had also taken a laxative a few days ago since I was so clogged up I had to get something out.  I usually get discharge before but I haven't seen any.  I masturbate on the occasion. I am kinda bloated now not sure if it's from being gassy or period. What is going on?  I have heard stuff about ovarian cysts and it's scaring me... Please help. Thanks in advanced.

I am sexually active but have used birth control and condoms.  Plus last time I did that was in August 2011.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
If your menses are delayed more than 10 days beyond the due date, with previous periods being regular and you have been sexually active, there is a very good chance of you having become pregnant. But it's worthwhile to check with your doctor. As the other causes for missed periods can be hormonal imbalances where in the ovaries may not be producing eggs and hence the uterus may not be getting the right stimulation for menstruation. Other possibilities are thyroid disorders, where an imbalance of the hormone thyroxine can cause menstrual irregularities, and abnormally high levels of prolactin can also cause missed periods.

You should wait for a few days and if you still don’t get your periods then get it checked from a gynecologist.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

If you're not sexually active and haven't really had irregular periods in the past, skipping a period out of the blue is probably just hormonal. If it skips over this week maybe talk to your gyn.
