Strange Itching

Alright so for quite some time now I have experienced a strange itching problem. Inside my labia Majora but not quite to the Labia Minora it itches. Just in between. Mostly on the inside of the labia majora in the crease where my lips close around everything. I thought perhaps it was because it was warmer so perhaps it was like a heat rash. It comes and goes. I went to the doctor and was given two different antibiotics as well as yeast infection pills (two that you take four days apart). Did everything the doctor told me to do and finish the medications.

Symptoms cleared up but not fully. There was always a small itching feeling but it was far more bearable than it had been before the antibiotics and yeast infection medication. All tests came back clear.

I told my gyno it hadn't fully seemed to clear up and she said that after two rounds of antibiotics and yeast infection medication that there was no way that it was still there and likely I was receiving a residual itch from it being so irritated and probably from scratching in my sleep.

That was a few weeks ago and over time it only got worse. Still itches really bad, especially when I am laying in bed. I have tried loose underwear and even no underwear at all. I take benedryl which clears up the itching entirely which made me think perhaps I was allergic to something. (mind you I have been using the same everything for years). I stopped using items that might cause an allergic reaction and oddly enough it doesn't really seem to matter. I will stop using a certain item and the itching will stop, so I think it was that and then suddenly it's back again. It seems to just occur at random without warning, clearing up for a few days at a time then coming back unbearable before clearing up again.

Aside from the benedryl I take baths in the morning and evening (right before and right after bed) with just plain water, no chemicals or anything and that helps to relieve the itching a lot. I know it isn't dirty I shower daily (don't always use soap down there though because my doctor told me it can throw off the PH so that using a gentle dove soap every few days would be enough). The symptoms are worst when I am trying to sleep. If I am out and about they seem to just disappear or maybe I ignore them more because I am in public? Either way, they are the most unbearable right before going to bed, during sleep, and when I wake up in the morning.

I'm ready for this to be done with and I am very tired of taking antibiotics for no reason. As it is I have to take two rounds of any antibiotics prescribed just because I suffered from a lot of Kidney/Bladder/UT infections growing up and antibiotics don't seem to work well for me anymore. When I go to the gyno they prescribe the same antibiotics over and over and they aren't doing the trick and it doesn't seem like they have any intention of trying something different. I worry about taking benedryl for long periods of time before that becomes useless as well.

Any ideas on what this might be? (Also not any sort of STD/STI been checked for all of that and everything is clean).

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
It can be irritation or dermatitis skin and not necessarily fungal infection. You need to get it examined from a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment is diagnosis specific.
You should also maintain hygiene and try to keep the area clean and dry, wear loose-fitting cotton clothing. Also use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid deodorant / cosmetics. You can also use calamine lotion or cream with zinc oxide paste applied directly to wet skin after bathing.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

You might try a topical antibiotic mix like Neosporin in the place where it itches. If it's bacterial in nature, that should stop the itch. Neosporin is also somewhat greasy, and will lubricate the area to cut down on abrasion if that's a contributor. Your results using Benadryl suggests there is inflammation caused by something. You just need to figure out what it is. Good luck.
