Sounds like herpes to me... starts with a tingle you may not notice then it begins to itch. Then the area swells and turns red. A lump forms much like an ingrown hair or cyst. Finally it becomes sore, if you scratched it enough before had it breaks open and urine can make it burn even more. Remember you can get herpes from oral as well as sexual contact and even if your partner touched himself, had active bacteria on his had just before he touched you. Not to mention they don't have too have open sores to spread the virus. You could very well have contracted it years ago and a trigger has brought it out or you never noticed it before bcuz it was mild. When this happens go to the doctor to get it confirmed so you can start getting valtrex. It ***** and it will always be there. When it happened to me I had 2 partners in seventeen years, you don't have to be sexually active with multiple partners, and I was very angry BUT my doctor was very understanding about it and gave me a very nice talk. It can be controlled but will life long and you need to be honest if you are with someone new.
Wow, this is such an old post---but I'm sure I'm not the most recent to go about reading it.
I too suffer from this odd, mysterious condition. My labia majora randomly began to itch. For no apparent reason! At first I assumed it was an insect bite, but there was no bump.
Assuming that the itch would go away on it's own, I willed myself to not itch it. But the itch was too much. If my underwear rubbed against my labia, they began to itch. If I sat a certain way, it would itch. It seemed to itch no matter what! It was frustrating to the point where I could no longer focus on anything but the itch.
I've searched online for an answer, but I can't find anything. Some say it's herpes---or some other sexually transmitted disease, but I'm a 22 year old virgin who has yet to even make-out with anyone.
After the affirmation that this wasn't due to an insect bite or an STD, I thought I had an infection. So I took a "bath" in vinegar and salt. It burned, but the two combined are supposed to have good anti-bacterial properties. Afterward, it seemed to help----even if it burned like hell. But later that night, I began itching again.
Online, someone suggested rubbing olive oil on the itchy spot. I tried it. It worked, but only for a couple minutes--plus, it began to itch more and more with each application of the olive oil. So I stopped using that.
I'm too embarrassed to visit a gyn and to even talk to my doctor about it. So I'm trying to find a cure for this supposed "epidemic" by myself.
Currently, although it's not a permanent solution, I have found that rubbing lotion (unscented) on my labia stops it from itching. This keeps the itch away for a span ranging between 1 - 3 hours. I have to reapply when the itch returns. Do NOT put lotion inside your vagina, it could cause problems. Just apply it on the labia and you'll feel a slight burn, but relief comes a minute later.
If I find a "cure" I will come back and apprise you all :)
Until then, good luck with the epidemic of itchy labia.
ladies i know it is a horrible thing to have. herpes can lay dormant for years and years and you may never know it at all or you will get the sores and they are extremely painful. you may have an outbreak once and then never again. you may also experience sharp pains down your legs and sensitivity just by sitting down. Valtrex is the only treatment out there and the only thing it does is "help" control the outbreaks. do your own research but be careful, especially if you are pregnant. delivering vaginally with herpes can be very dangerous to your baby.
Sounds like an epidemic ladies...I too have had this happen...just once, last summer...about the same time that I got pregnant. The doctor told me that it was either a cyst or a pimple. So who knows? I was checked for the herpes virus and it came back negative....I knew it would.
My ob/gyn told me to show HER if it happens again INSTEAD of my doctor.
She says that it could be a cyst, cancer,or because of a vaginal infection that is left untreated.
So if I get another one I'll let you know. Good luck to all.
I have the same exact symptoms on my outer left labia and same spot also when it occurs my left groin gland is swollen simultaneously i have had a blood test for herpes but it comes up negative Help? what is it? so confused too! it always comes in the same spot when i was pregnant and now my baby is four monthes old it just came today!

Your story sounds so similar to mine, I felt as if I could have written it myself. I too have gotten this spot on my outter labia, always at the exact same place, first itchy then sore and red. It seems very strange that it is always in the same spot. I have been married for over 10 years and have not had another partner in that time. Another strange thing is that I have not had one of these sores for over 5 years (since early in the pregnancy with my now 5 yr old twins) . Now, after finding out I am aprox. 5-6 weeks pregnant I have another one- same spot, same symptoms as before. I too know that my husband has been faithful and I'm sure to an outsider this certainly looks suspicious. I also
question the diagnosis of herpes and wonder if there is something else that could explain this.
