Why do I bleed when I masturbate?

I'm a teen virgin. When I masturbate I only rub the outer lips of my vagina, I have never fingered myself. But sometimes after I go to the bathroom and I wipe, there's bits of blood that shows on the toilet paper. It's only happened twice but I'm worried. What's wrong with me?

Thank you, but no, I'm not sore or anything. I don't have long nails so there is no way I could have scratched myself. It doesn't happen every time, but it's happened enough for me to notice. And it's not a lot of blood, it's just a little that you can see in my ***/discharge

Please don’t ever use saliva in your vagina - way different bacteria that is not healthy for your vag!!!
I would never ever do that.

Hi -

Does it hurt when you masturbate? Does the skin feel raw or irritated? Is the area swollen at all? Is the area lubricated enough? I ask because maybe you're rubbing too long or too hard for your delicate skin, or maybe it's too dry. (You don't have to answer any of these questions here if you don't want to - just questions for you to think about.)

The next time this happens, take a mirror and look to see if the blood is on the labia (the lips) or from your vagina (where you'd bleed if you have a period or where you'd finger yourself if you did that).

Nothing may be wrong, so try not to worry. If you are too dry, try using saliva (your spit), or even olive oil or yogurt (I know, it sounds WEIRD!). Both are safe to use vaginally, while other things like lotion may cause infections. (If you have a cold or a sore throat, don't use saliva.)

If it continues, or gets worse, you may need to see a doctor. You can tell your parent/guardian that you are bleeding sometimes when you wipe - don't have to tell them it's when you masturbate if it's not safe to do so. You should tell your doctor, if you are alone with them. A good doctor won't share that with your parents, but use your judgement.

I hope this helps!

Oh and depending on your age and location, it may be illegal for your doc to talk to your parents about it. Teens have the right, after a certain age, to get reproductive health care without their parents' knowledge or consent.
