Why do I wake up in the middle of the night in agony when I first start my period?

This has been going on for about 5-6 cycles now, but my cycle has started in the middle of the night instead of during the day like it always has...but that's not the problem. I now wake up in absolute agony almost always right between 2 and 4 am, my period started, which had never happened before even when it happened during the day.

I have incredible menstrual cramps, a painful stomach ache, and my head is very foggy and nauseous. Sometimes it feels like there are air bubbled trapped throughout my throat too. My back aches badly, and it's overall a nightmare. I don't usually fall back to sleep for a while, usually once the pain pills I take start to slightly help. (Not Midol, my reaction to Midol is a whole other ordeal) I usually wake up in less pain, but it can be kinda iffy during the day at random times, but just headaches and cramps.

This can't be normal, and I've mentioned it to my doctor, and we even got blood work done for various reasons a few months back, but nothing much came of it other than me being a little low in Vitamin D(which has been treated and pain persists).

I really want it to stop and maybe be treated, it's a long hour or two before I can get to sleeping it off, and I even woke up my mother sobbing one time during the summer back when I was staying with my parents it was so bad at some points. I legitimately thought something was deathly wrong with me, and I can't figure out what's going on.

What about considering going on the pill which very often decreases any and all menstrual symptoms to either none or very tolerable? You sound like a prime candidate for that.

You might ask your doc to order an MRI of your uterus. If you have scar tissue there, it can really hurt during your period.

Anti-prostaglandins (like Advil and Nuprin) are supposed to be a lot better for menstrual cramps than general pain pills. Have you tried either of those?

I've used both Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen, and they work somewhat, but it only helps a bit and usually take a time to finally kick in.
